Was in Lincoln today, in the X1, doing a bit of motorhome motorcaravan campervan * related shopping. I can get to where I was going round two sides of a rectangle in either direction, but we always choose one particular way. Today, I said to SWMBO, "shall we have a change", and took the alternate two sides. First manoeuvre was a right turn at traffic lights, and I managed to neatly slip through a gap in oncoming traffic without being overly delayed. Oncoming, however, was an ambulance in the middle of the road overtaking the traffic-light queue, so I immediately, and just clear of the junction, pulled to the nearside to let him through the lights. Just about to set off again when bang! - somebody back-ends me. Not sure where he came from, though I suspect he'd done a rapid cut through as the ambulance cleared the junction, and was absolutely oblivious of me. TBH, the damage appears to be confined to the bumper (and though largely superficial, will probably result in replacement). I could do without the claim/paperwork/botheration, etc. and you just know that, despite photos, etc. it just won't be straightforward. If only we'd stayed with tradition and gone the other way. * should probably now revert to motorhome, as there has been a change........

Oh dear, I suppose that's what happens when you get a bit, well, you know, perhaps, just maybe, you might be ready for a beige Honda Jazz sort of thing, or at least something a bit easier to cope with perhaps...just saying...😈
New motorhome bought or something?
Incidentally, I was in Lincoln on Monday and will be there again on Friday, didn't encounter any such problems then...

That’s bad luck. Don’t you wish other people would just look where they’re going?

...... perhaps, just maybe, you might be ready for a beige Honda Jazz sort of thing, ....perhaps, just perhaps, it might have been one of those that hit me........ New motorhome bought or something? ...yup, a victim of motorhome itch and scope creep, and we have had a new one for two weeks. Incidentally, I was in Lincoln on Monday and will be there again on Friday, didn't encounter any such problems then... ...let me know where you'll be and I'll happily arrange something.......

It does seem to be a thing. My brother in law, who already had a just one year old biggest swankiest caravan I've ever seen, changed it again this year for an even bigger swankier one. He really does look like he's towing a small house around after him now. He puts up fences, pods ( whatever they are ) gazebos, fairy lights, all manner of things I don't begin to understand. He's very proud of something he calls a Cadac or at least I think that's how you spell it. Some kind of fancy barbecue anyway. Awnings too, big awnings.

TBH, our usage has changed somewhat. Longer distances, longer duration, and more "off-grid". We don't know whether that's as a result of going slightly smaller to a campervan, or because it just has. So the new one is a bit longer, but the same (actually a cm or so shorter) on the road when you take the bike-rack into account, 'cos this one has the bikes back in a garage again. That means slightly more room inside, and a little better on the "facilities". 'tis not unlike this: First impressions are that it will work well for us.

Thats a lot of vehicle behind the back wheels... it's actually quite conservative (in proportion to the wheelbase) than many others.....

...well, the insurance company have been quick off the mark (as have the "klingons").
Filled in claim online late afternoon (the photos are quite compelling evidence). I have had email notification that they are (initially at least) treating it a a no-fault claim.
Repair network have been in touch, nearest agent are the nearest reputable (non-chain) bodyshop (anything metal and I'd be wanting BMW, but this will hopefully only be plastics, and a limited number at that, so I'm inclined to go with the insurer's network).
Enterprise rent a car have been in touch (declined as mine is eminently driveable, and I have access to the Smart for when it is booked in).
Solicitors have tried to get me re: uninsured claims (I'll want my excess back, but nothing much else).
I bet the repair takes somewhat longer!

....and this morning, an admission of liability from the other party's insurers, so things could be worse.
