Tomorrow we, Evie and I, are competing in an obedience dog show. Only her third, we came 4th in class last time out, and need to win to get promoted to the next class. .

4th out of how many?
Is it fun? It looks like bloody hard work.

Well today, at Slough dog show we came 5th in group (40 in group) after a three way run off for third. 1/2 point between 1st and 5th.
Normally I would be disappointed with that result, BUT doggie worked her little furry paws off for me, did not throw away a winning position because she was lazy (like our last third place one) and there were some good runners and riders, with only 1/2 point between us all.
And you can never be upset with being placed and getting a rosette!

Lovely looking dog.
We have Polo. A white Bolognese with a lovely calm manner. Rarely barks, great with kids and intelligent (unless a muddy puddle beckons...). Not sure Polo would do particularly well in obedience competitions but he's our fourth child and we love him. Photos to come later.

Ours is Leo, a 5 year old Sealyham terrier. Great wee guy, ( currently looking at me in disgust because he knows I'm going mountain biking without him today. Too dangerous for him where we're going due to lots of fast moving and airborne bikes )

Well, Just got back from competing at the Winchester Championship dog show. Started off desperately, the weather was awful, and the round set for the mandatory class I had to enter was awful as was the judge Dreadful start to the day. However the sun came out, and the optional class I entered (2 class grades higher) we cam in with a storming 4th out of 35. So thats 4 dog shows we have done this year, won 1 and been placed in three, and come home each time with some rosettes!

Never been to a dog show, but one reads stories about how bitchy and back-bitey they are. Are they?

There are two types of "shows" Breed shows, and working shows. I dont have first hand experience of competing in a breed show, but yes Bitchy and Back Bitey is the name of the game there big time. I compete in working shows (Obedience) and yes Bitchy and back bitey exists in spades there there as well, specially at the higher levels. Its probably as bad as the allotment world.

Jesus, really? Now the allotment world I do know about. It is espionage, sabotage and subterfuge at an unbelievable level.

Yay, today at Andover show we won our class ( we smashed it actually, a 4 point margin over 2nd place) and have now qualified as winner out of class, no longer allowed to run in that class EVER AGAIN (dog or handler) now competing in the next class up This win, and the points for places in the previous 4 shows, also means we qualify for the Kennel Club national finals in December!!!!

Isn't it the Kennel Club that you hate so much?

Isn't it the Kennel Club that you hate so much? Yes it is, I do compete in non KC affiliated shows, but they are few and far between, and have no real standing. So I am stuck with the KC route.

Well done though, I know the hard work that goes into this stuff. I'm quite pleased, its only taken us 5 shows to qualify out, and only 5 shows to gather enough qualifying points for the final. Had never competed before March this year.
