A lot of these places which are setting up now are worth the tour.
We did the Bruichladdich tour at the end of October never expected gin to be thrown into the mix. Really worth the trip, be aware mobile signal is patchy at best. On the beaches on the west coast of the island Vodafone IE is your only option. Switching off is also a good option.
A real getaway from it all break !

BTW, if you'd told me that you were planning a special trip to my backyard I could have helped with your visa application and arranged a personal tour of all the amazing cultural attractions that Basingstoke has to offer. No problem, I have a fast getaway car now

....I have been to Chimay...... ....it was shut.... I'm lucky, I have a Belgian mate, the beer comes to me. I can't imagine anything worse than making a special trip including ferry's to find nothing there. TBH, we were traversing Belgium/France and looking for an overnight stop. The name resonated, but the town has few redeeming features, made worse by the fact that it was a grey, drizzly day, and a public holiday (and thus was quite literally "shut"). The beer (in most of its guises) is fine.... I'm planning a trip to the north pole of Europe next summer with my bike. I'm not expecting much other than some remote lookout point, a post office and a billion puffins or other sea birds. Why ? Because I can. Nordkapp?

That's the fellah ! You're going to tell me you've been there with your bed on wheels (saves crossing stuff out). One question, what is the gap between gas 'n go places ?, I have about 120 miles before squeaky bum time, 150 miles and I'm walking with a 190kgs companion who needs a push.

Blimey, you should be conditioned for an electric car, you haven't got one but already have the range anxiety.

Been over the Arctic Circle with the motorhome, motorcaravan campervan a good few times.
Last year visited the Lofoten Islands (rather more attractive than Nordkapp, though you may wish to tick the box with the latter).
You need to make sure you're filled-up, though there are filling stations.
If you want any tips on a decent route up and down (Norway one way, Sweden the other - unless you fancy Finland), then I can pass some on.

Blimey, you should be conditioned for an electric car, you haven't got one but already have the range anxiety. A bike is fun, a smartphone on wheels ? Nah ! I can easily get from Germany to H'ingerland on two wheels because there are gas 'n go places every 50 miles or so. People are not so receptive to a knock on the door with a two pin adapter asking for several hours connection time. I've still got the S60 which can push 800 miles to a tank as a back up, how many tanks is that to the 540i ? It's over 3 tanks to the Focus - that gets 240 miles to a 52l tank.

I had thought of one way direct through Sweden popping out/in at the top and the other way via the Atlantic highway. Is there any way of getting from the UK to Europe further north than Newcastle/Ijmuiden ? I will need to get to the UK on the way back I suspect. I think the Stavanger/Norway Newcastle crossing is no more. If not, I'll probably just go home, drop the bike off and fly to the UK.

Absolutely no (passenger) crossings North of the Netherlands now. Either the one you mention, or Harwich - Hook or Hull - Rotterdam (A great pity, because Newcastle - Bergen was a great way to get there, and even Harwich - Esbjerg saved a good few miles).
You'll have to decide how to get across to Scandinavia - the bridges have the advantage of not having to book anything (and are quite an experience), but the ferries can provide an alternative from Norway to Denmark, or even Germany to Sweden (and even an overnight from, say, Travemünde).
Travelling in Sweden it is easier to knock off the miles than Norway, and of the North/South Routes in Sweden, the most enjoyable (for us), has been the E45 up the centre of the country to Gällivare (we then took the E10 via Kiruna into Norway over the tops). There's a set of attractive towns/villages interspersed with an awful lot of nothing much on the way, though, and it gets more and more barren as you head North.
I can't speak for the road up to Nordkapp from Narvik, though I would highly recommend a trip the length of the Lofoten Islands, though, which are absolutely spectacular. (TBH, heading North from Narvik to Nordkapp, then coming back South and out onto the Lofotens before catching a ferry back to the mainland from near the end would be a great trip).
Norway is nearly blanket 80kph, and if (as you should) you use the ferries, it can be quite slow. You could pick a hundred different (and enjoyable) routes back South, so I'll leave you to your own, but the most spectacular fjord scenery is between Trondheim (Alesund, really) and Bergen, so save a bit of time for that. The ferries aren't extortionate with a m/c so you can choose generally at will.
Bl**dy expensive otherwise, though. And stay off the booze; it's expensive; the drink/drive limit is virtually nil, and they random test. (Heading South through Mo I Rana at a weekend on the last visit, we spotted a set of police vehicles, and a policeman with a bucket in the middle of the road. We genuinely thought it was a collection for "police charities" until we realised that every vehicle was being stopped, every driver being breathalysed, and the used "tubes" were going in the bucket. 50 or 60 cars queuing, luckily in the opposite direction - I've little doubt I would have passed a UK test, but I would have been sweating on the Norwegian, near zero limit!).
It pays to research the toll-roads in advance. They're not over-expensive, and are mainly ANPR operated, but payment arrangements can be a bit confusing.

Thanks for that. Booze is not a problem when I'm with bike, there are plenty pied up metal box drivers to put me off that game. Would still love to see Nordkapp so may visit a couple of times, with bike, long distance car and maybe the RS or Mustang Convertible...
