Do you think you might have been spending a bit too much time in Amsterdam recently? Thoughts like that shouldn't really pop into your mind quite so readily, don't you agree? 😬

Being in Amsterdam has certainly sharpened my senses in terms of silent (and frequently unlit) road users. I've developed owl-like flexibility in my neck; I look everywhere twice before stepping out.

Well, this new Android phone (which I hate, incidentally) takes pictures too big to upload here, and can't even resize them later.
I had two that told yesterday morning's story perfectly - but you'll have to make do with the two thousand words instead.
It was cold on Friday evening and I knew I had to start early on Saturday. So after I'd plugged The Future in to charge, I programmed a departure time of 0840 and left it for the night.
The next morning, the CLS was covered in an impenetrable crust of frost; the i3 was clean, clear and ready to drive away.
I tried to repeat the trick for this morning, and it even had a pretty good go at shrugging off the snow. The roads here did less well, though, so the social call became a phone call instead.

Well, this new Android phone (which I hate, incidentally) takes pictures too big to upload here, and can't even resize them later. AIUI, posting attachments here consumes part of a very limited storage allowance. OTOH, posting an externally-hosted link does not. Whilst the popular Photobucket no longer allows such hosting links without payment, there are easy alternatives available. I tend to use Tinypic.com (though it will drop you the odd ad) Choosing a file to upload, and resize to "messageboard" will give you a link that can be embedded in your reply (either by copying and pasting the link it provides in "embedded image" format, or by copying the supplied URL and using this board's "Insert Image" option (the picture icon on the reply toolbar). This will then pull in the picture from the link. Slightly more long-winded, but kills a few birds with one stone.

Perhaps I should get some sort of sound-effect generator - duck quack, steam engine whistle...? I notice, having posted as above, that a previous post of mine fell foul of the "photobucket effect". The image should have been (though it has rather lost its effect now.....)

Mine can. Perhaps a manual might help? Though maybe you've No FM2R.

In the settings function of the camera, you can change the default size of the photos. However they still seem to be far too large for the use most of us need. I use an online photo editing function to reduce the file size to below 500kb.
My Sony camera came with Play Memories software which will reduce the file size very easily. For my work, 20Mb photos are reduced to ~300Kb for insertion into written reports and they are perfect.

I store mine at full resolution / size.
You can always reduce them, but you'll play hell trying to increase them if you've saved them small / low.

And my phone will reduce them to <1MB on demand.
EDIT: I typed GB when I meant MB, so I've changed it.

Not even my Sony with 20MP sensor and RAW images is anywhere near 1GB 20MB more like it.

I've got 54 miles to do tomorrow all in ... So Nogbad will be delighted to hear I'm feeling a slight flutter of range anxiety, given the low temperatures today (-3C here) have consumed 5% more power from the Leaf on the usual commute this morning. I'm sure it'll manage, but I just want to keep the Woking Class Hero in hope of a meltdown.] Just for fun last night I lit up the i3's afterburner - sorry, range extender - mainly just to be sure I could work it if I ever really needed to. I'd heard conflicting reports on how noisy it would be - from barely perceptible to like riding a circular saw. Well, with the radio on in the cabin, I had trouble noticing it at all, although the display panel confirmed it was running. The only indication that something had happened was when I got home and there was a distinct hot-plastic smell around the back of the car. I imagine that was some kind of factory coating burning off the exhaust, although I might have hoped that would have been taken care of at pre-delivery. About 45 miles driven, and still 60-plus showing on the guessometer. The car is doing its local-journeys job very well. It's taken MrsB1 to Oxford today: 25 miles each way and no fossils required, even with pre-conditioning. I can't express how delightful pre-conditioning is.

I also enjoy pre-conditioning, although it's not as extreme as yours as I park in a garage overnight.
Yours does have superior range to mine, even without the range extender. I think we've both made the right decision - extending myself to buy an i3 would have been an unnecessary extra expense, but it seems a good decision for MrsB1's needs and peace of mind. I think you could have got away with a 30kwh Leaf, but perhaps that would have been a step to far for the trouble and strife.

Don't underestimate the amount of other people's money that went/will go into the i3. In addition to the £4,500 grant from all you lovely taxpayers, we had £2,000 from BMW against the E220, another £1,900 as a 'deposit contribution' and much of the rest at an interest rate of 0.67% that removed any thought of extending my mortgage borrowings - or, indeed, of taking more money out of savings. And there'll be £500 towards the iWallbox Plus that's coming next week.
VW's 'scrappage' offer on the Golf seemed more generous, but BMW had it beaten everywhere else; there's about £2,000 less interest in this deal than in their best proposal. And the i3 actually suits us better than a GTE would have done. Notably, the VW salesman whose tardiness - we were ready to sign for a GTE - created the opening into which BMW nipped has never rung to ask what I'm doing. Who trains these people?
