Not specifically seen a Sierra recently but there is someone with a Mk 2 Cortina near us who uses it fairly regularly, someone else with a Mk1 Golf (not a Gti) and another with a Singer Chamois (posh Hillman Imp) who uses it often. I guess they are all pretty rare now, it just depends which ones of the few are around where you are. As far as keeping cars long term goes my wife is only on her third car in the last 36 years, A Polo and 2 Golfs, the most recent a 2001 Y reg which she has had from new Not counting the Commer of course, which we have had since 1986 and which SWMBO's father had run since 1976. I, on the other hand am currently choosing my 12th (and last) new (company) car since 1978. What are you thinking of getting Commerdriver? Something you might buy when you retire maybe? 2 testing directions at the moment Golf 1.5 petrol or BMW 218i petrol. and either Prius or Golf GTE Hybrid, probably not looking to purchase when I retire as I expect to retire well before lease end, current thinking is about 2 years hence when SWBMO reaches 60. I will be testing Golf 1.5, BMW 218 and Prius in that order for the next 3 weekends and slotting in a short drive in GTE when it can be arranged. Driving requirements do not come close to full electric being an option, conscious move from diesel as I think its less attractive I'm many ways than it used to be in terms of economy apart from the particulate & NOx issues

They say, although it's almost certainly nonsense of course, but they say, that green cars are more likely to be in an accident than any other colour. Strange really, and almost certainly just superstition. It'd make you think twice about ordering one though wouldn't it, y'know, especially if you had a bit of, well, y'know, "history"?... 🤔

I saw a Sierra only yesterday. A bit scrappy around the edges, but solid enough. A neighbour who is about my age (early 50s), has driven the same Volvo 240 for at least 30 years. Rust brown with a private reg. Single guy who is a lawyer. My wife who is a JP said he appeared in front of her a year or so back representing a criminal alleged speeding motorist. Apparently he was so bad, the accused would have been better to plead guilty. Maybe that's why he can't afford to change the car?

If I had to buy a car current in the 1970s it would have to be rebuilt to modern standards of assembly. But the obvious one would be an NSU Ro80. Quite simply the best car in the world at the time. Or a Citroen SM; Lancia Gamma; Granada Coupe or actually a car I did have - an Alfasud, but then again, what about the Citroen GS or the Fiat 128? Cars with so much character and vim and unlike anything we have today.

Long time ago now, but I knew a guy in Glasgow who was a then very successful lawyer. But he lived in a converted warehouse in what was a really rough part of town. Inside the property was amazing but outside was on the rough side of rough. He had an old Granada which looked tatty but was in fact fitted with a Jag engine and running gear. Went like the wind but drew no unwanted attention parked outside his property.

But the obvious one would be an NSU Ro80. How can you say that? the technology upon which it was based was disastrous then, and remains so today. An Audi 100 of the time was a better car in every conceivable way

My father bought an Audi in the late 70s (second hand). A rust bucket for sure. Didn't have it long. Replaced by a Triumph Dolomite which he used to tow a huge caravan for our last holiday together.

I guy I sort of knew used to race an Ro80. It was, apparently, very quick for the time. But it was in the late 70s I'd think.

I had a Triumph 1300 for a while. Quite a nice wee thing, a bit Dolomite-ish in styling.
