Well as you want to go down that route how much of your Bavarian Bin Wagon (bayerische muhl wagon = BMW) has British input (my German Saarloius built Focus RS has a Cosworth British built head) vs your missus Renault Clio & my missus Derby built Toyota Auris Hybrid ? We could add in the Welsh engine for my S60 but I'm sure your next door neighbour handbuilt your Mitsubishi estate I went for the RS because the order book was closed on the Mustang cabriolet. The new model opens later this year but I have a policy now not to have a new car in the first year after production starts due to the quality issues of my current Volvo S60. Where does that leave the Europe is better then America argument? My Volvo is pish, I truly hope your's is better.

Well I've had it for two days now and it's not what I expected at all. All reports mention firm suspension but so far I have to say it's more compliant in standard mode than the factory setup on my S60 R-design.
Android Auto is a showroom for Google via Sync3. Not worth the download in my opinion may as well stick to standard android apps via Bluetooth. Can't activate the factory fit Navi when android auto is running as it always switches to Google maps.
Now, the performance. It's a game of two halves to use football parlance. It's as docile as a Micra if you want it to be. Light clutch, very little throttle input required and you'd never guess you were driving anything other than a stock Ford Focus. I've only had it up to 5000rpm in 4th, it pops and bangs on upshifts as well as down shifts in standard mode and chases the camber on the road like nothing I've ever driven before. Cornering is very neutral. I've read of cars ' running on rails' this is the closest I've ever experienced to that. Yes, I provoked a bit of arse out oversteer, some extra throttle and the front end just towed it out. You really need to be shifting I suspect to get any hint of undesteer.
So far I'm seeing 21.7mpg taking it easy.
SWMBO caught me on a chip tuning website yesterday. Oops!
After using sport mode standard feels flat. My bike always selects sport mode at start up and you have to dial it back, this car you have to dial up if you want sharper response.
So far so good, after initially thinking this might be a step too far in terms of ride even my wife has commented how smooth it is compared to the Volvo. A very well sorted chassis.

Like most modern Fords then. As I may have mentioned previously, the S-Max I had for five years was the closest I could get to a seven seat Ferrari. even with pretty low profile tyres, it rode well and handled completely unlike a seven seat MPV had any right to do.
Glad you are enjoying it.
My only experience of Android Auto was in a Corsa. Like you I thought it a waste of time. All I want it to do, is to get the home screen of my phone displayed on a big screen in the car....

Still loving it, 4,000 kms up now, been to Scotland with it and found other UK drivers very pro or against the car. Very marmite. In England every knob in a 320d wanted a race, in Scotland just thumbs up and people coming over for a chat.
Still don't know what the top speed is, I've sen 270kph on the speedo and it was still accelerating before I had to slow down. BMW and Audi drivers just move aside when they spot it coming in the rear view mirror with their limited top end, usually get a flash of lights after they've been passed.
Averaging 24mpg at the moment with it.
I've read of a few cars having head gasket issues, I've been running mine on 98+ RON (98 is standard Premium Plus available most places, Shell Racing is available as 100RON and ARAL - read BP - have 102 Ultimate available) fuel and was warned by the dealer to take it easy for the first 2500 kms, the manual say 1500kms. The exhaust does get very hot, easy way to strip the paint off the garage door after a run. Lovely car to get in and drive just because you can.

Roundabout, turning third right, he figured it would be good to zap me all the way round the outside of the roundabout for 270 degrees exiting onto a dual carriageway, caught me napping so he exited the roundbout a car length in front, but I snatched two left paddles, and 40 yards down the round jammed him up behind a lorry on the slow lane. Kept him there for a mile or two.

Bad man. He's got bragging rights tonight with his mates: Drove round the outside of a 540i on a roundabout, probably on U Choob somewhere if he has a dashcam.

Oh I so like doing that. There is nothing better than seeing off some young git who thinks because you are in a large estate car, you have no desire to go quickly.... Even better if you can trap them in traffic whilst one dawdles at 40mph and 40mpg.

Does yours have a 540i badge, Sven? I wish mine didn't have 'CLS350' on the back - not least because it would look cleaner without - but it seems to be the norm for the CLS, whereas Es are about 50:50 with badges and without.

Its badged yes, I hummed and haaad about debadging option - I was so 50/50 about it I couldnt make up my mind and inertia decreed it was badged. With a personal plate its not exactly company car shoe salesman discrete anyway.

Company car driving shoe salesmen are not eligible for a 3.0 V6 engine.... Fact of life. Sorry but rules is rules and amount of debadging can change it.

You can take the badges off at your leisure, they're only stuck on with some 3M tape. A hairdryer and some dental floss usually does the trick. I was thinking about your 26mpg figure yesterday evening and my own 24mpg figure, it's amazing how cars have come on in the last 20 years. In the late 90's I was driving a SAAB 900 V6 auto which had low to middle 170 horsepower, that gave 26.9mpg regardless how it was driven. I then traded that in for a FIAT Coupe 20v turbo with 220PS, that gave 28 mpg. Direct injection on petrol may not be doing anything for emissions, PM values for both new petrol and diesel being the same, NOx being in the same range .06 and .08. What has surprised me is previously I dismissed four cylinder petrol as a play thing, with direct injection it's like driving a very torquey diesel and pulls very cleanly from low revs.
