Now then. I'm getting very close to going for a Leaf. Would you assume that means £1000 off the screen price before negotiations? The car's DCR, as I expected. Couldn't care less, bring on all the fire engine gags, they'll be ignored. I test drove a demonstrator at a local dealer at the weekend, I are most impressed. Particularly like the regen braking trick. Very comfy seats, much better than I anticipated and up there with SAAB seats for comfort. Certainly goes fast when you press the right pedal. Absolute piss take on the trade in for my Mazda though, at £250. Might try to ebay it for a bit more if I can bothered. WBAC offers £195 FFS. It's a bloody great car, anyone fancy it for £500? PCP quote is £178 a month over 3 years. I spend £300 a month on diesel, £25 on VED. Add £30 for electric to the £178, I'm up a reasonable amount and have peace of mind of reliability/no repairs. Merc stays for long journeys, weekends etc. Dealer says that a brand new Leaf is being launched this month, with a 340 mile rage. If that's the case, I'll be moving into one of those in 3 years time, second hand. Game over for petrol/diesel.

Dealer says that a brand new Leaf is being launched this month, with a 340 mile rage. Wouldn't be enough rage for Sven. 😈 But I'm seriously thinking of one to replace, of all things, the 325. If I do go down the Big Swanky Estate Car route this winter, I'll effectively have two rapid tourers, one more capacious than the other, and nothing to satisfy our other requirement, for a local runabout. I no longer need a commuting car - especially not a diesel one - and the BSEC will be fine for my rare UK business driving. Leaf or i3? Vić and I will have plenty of notes to compare.

Bet you get an i3. They're much more expensive than a Leaf, so immediately deleted from my consideration. The Leaf is a much nicer place to sit than I thought it would be, and it more than satisfies my requirements in that regard, so I don't feel the need to buy the BMW badge. In fact, looking at pictures, I prefer the traditional nature of the Leaf interior. Dealer has sharpened his pencil a bit and and I'm down to £150 a month, 3yr PCP. Hand hovering over credit card....small amount of "fear of change" remaining in pit of stomach.

That is a good point, but the amount of times I drive any further than 340 miles in a day before having an overnight break is a very small number tending towards zero. Also, lets wait and see what numbers they publish when it launches on the 6th. Having seen a German reg Tesla here the other day, electric is becoming useable for long journeys.

Patience, Padwan. I'm seeing if he'll chuck in some services (which are a bloody joke on a Leaf - plug a laptop in to check for faults/problems, yes, but the thing's got telematics which report anything untoward to Nissan anyway and they ring you up, so I'm not seeing the point of "servicing" other than to honour terms of a PCP, so I'll try to avoid forking out for them) and some mats. Usual stuff.
The missus is convinced she'll not be able to drive it without lessons. I've tried to explain it's pretty much exactly the same as any other car, it even has a Merc style foot operated hand brake (although you release it by depressing the pedal rather than by way of a hand operated lever).

Before pulling the trigger on a LEAF I would give serious consideration to the Latest Kia Soul EV.
"Interesting" looks aside is a very effective machine - 6.6kW AC charger and 50+kW CHAdeMO DC as standard.
Now has 30kwh usable, and realistic range of 100+miles at motorway speed, and 150miles chugging round town.
Very efficient heat pump makes it one of the best for not losing range in the winter. Services are £59 year one, and £99 year two.
If you were considering a POS Fluence then the Soul is better in every way - Leasing is the way to go at the moment.
£1200 down and £200/mth - www.drive-electric.co.uk/vehicles/kia-soul-ev-lease seems best out there just now.
ps. took a TESLA out for a test drive last week - fantastic bit of kit - time for man maths....

Ah, not always. Post, get back to work, come back after an hour, bugger - apostrophe abuse.
Never mind, it's not a big deal.
Anyway. I've just effing done it. Deposit has been placed. I got a £1000 deposit contribution for taking Nissan Finance (last second hand Leaf in the country on that offer apparently), which makes up for the poor trade in on the Mazda, the 2 services, the mats, and 3 years RAC membership (another £18 a month saved, can cancel my existing membership and go to an AutoAid policy on the Merc for £41 a year for me and the missus). Bonus. £149 a month, GFV is £3900 so we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. 12000 miles a year.
Car needs to be shipped up to Reading from Crawley, then I get to inspect and test drive for acceptance, then we're done.
I are electric. And in DCR.

340 mile range? Dealer is off head. It won't be 240, never mind 340.
Nissan are doing a deal I saw somewhere a day or two ago at the moment on the older 24s, and if you have a trade in that meets their criteria (older than 2010 I think) then you can pick up an Acenta 2014 model for about £87 a month, no battery lease, no or very minimal deposit.
Range of course on those is perhaps 70 to 80 in winter, 95 to 110 summer. If it suits, or can be made to, that's serious cheap motoring.

I don't know as I've ever had a kebab. What are those things with the big meaty block that spins in the window, and they slice it up and put it in a bun with cabbage or something? I think I had one of those as a student in about 1980.
That not a kebab, is it?
