I see lots of Tesla Model S around here - we have a dealer close by. I bet most of the demos do not lead to sales. I've not been yet. Again saw a load of Model X's today as I drove past the dealership.
I won't have Tesla S acceleration to try out, but I've got a Skoda Superb 220PS arriving tomorrow for a demo. Trouble is they can't collect it until a week later. Might be a bit faster than I've been used to. I know these days 220PS is not that uncommon but it's enough for me. And of course it will be petrol... I'd actually get a 1.4 if I like it because it's a lot lower emissions and fast enough.

Will be interested in your impressions of the Superb, Rob. It's the only obvious candidate for a mainstream car that might replace our E220. I think the 3GT is disqualified by its poor rear headroom, and another E would just be an update with no more room. Junior Bs are now 1.85 (at 16) and 1.87 (at 14), so we do need the space.

I tried one on a short test drive last week. It was a 220PS DSG car as well but the Laurent & Klement. It was very nice. But this being a company car the 1.4 150PS engine will cost a lot less.
The SE L Executive comes with most things you'd want as standard. But I could add a few options and not be worse off than now. I've got it for almost a week so will try it out on different roads. I'll create a new thread.

I got absolutely blown away again this morning by the white Tesla I see on my way to work most mornings. I deliberately try to get alongside it at traffic lights so I can marvel at the show, today I managed it at the Black Dam roundabout, exiting west on to the A30. Absolutely bloody mental acceleration this bloke indulges in, every time. I seriously feel like I'm driving a 19th century steam powered brick next to it. Gotta try one some time. He must have to pick his teeth out of the headrest when he gets to the office every morning. Between Black Dam and Hackwood Road roundabouts? That's where my taxi driver demonstrated the Tesla's acceleration. Might even be him that you've seen, his is also white and he lives 2 or 3 miles away. Old guy, probably mid 30's or so. He floored it at about 40mph up to around 80mph and the acceleration is pretty impressive but there's a noticeable whine from the motors when they are asked for maximum ooomph. I don't know the real world figures but I reckon my Z28 wouldn't be far behind him in the right gear.

Yes Kevin, that was the place. This guy always pulls in to Skippetts Lane West eventually (I always catch him up, as he has to stop at the roundabouts), so I presume he's going to the offices down there. It's a white 66 plate, a P90D I think. Still haven't worked out what the significance of the model numbers is.

The digits relate to the battery capacity (in kWh, I think.) P indicates 'Performance'; D is for 'Dual', meaning it has a second motor in the front compartment.

P90D is "not the most expensive, not the cheapest, but your eyes will certainly water" territory. £82500 before optional upgrades today.
There's a new Tesla showroom opening in Cambridge. Tomorrow. Shall have to go mosey one lunchtime next week. Not that it's ever going to be affordable for me, but I'm interested to see whether the "all-over-the-internet-crappy-build quality" is true close up.
Something along the lines of - there's two things you can see from space. One is the Great Wall of China and the other is the shutlines on a Model X.

Have done 700 miles in the 3.5wks since taking delivery of the B250e.
Have spent £0.00 charging the car by using public chargers near my home and workplace(s).
(other than the £20 annual fee for a card to use these points - chargeplacescotland.org/ - also works on the chargeyourcar/Polar network in England)
Have delighted in the rapido acceleration accompanied by no engine noise - is certainly quicker than the 7.9s to 60 touted by Mercedes (presumably to not undercut the fastest ICE variant that was available).
Oddly enough one of my partners got a LEAF a few days after I got the Merc and is equally happy with her new motor (neither of us knew the other was getting a new toy).

The press used to bang on about BMW perfect 50/50 weight distribution, without all the pumping ironmongery up front how is the drive ? Does it feel light in corners or balanced ? I know all the manufacturers will have done their homework in making the weight of the batteries replace the engine mass BUT, how does it feel ? Especially on damp, tree covered bends coming out of the corner and giving loud pedal a prod. Electric motors have no lag, any histrionics from the traction control ?

It pulls like a FWD turbodiesel with zero lag or wind-up time.
If you mash the accelerator from 0-10mph (0-20 in the wet) you WILL wheelspin, so you learn to modulate the pedal (although there are 3 modes - Sport which is very responsive, Eco which has a lot of initial travel before you get into the meat, and Eco+ which has even lighter response and needs kick-down to access full beans and is not suitable for town driving - I generally leave it in Eco, the default)
As far as turn-in and handling on bends it is rather good - low COG and independent rear suspension help - it handles like a somewhat lardy Focus and doesn't really understeer presumably as it isn't as nose-heavy as a normal FWD car.
If Merc had equipped it with rapid-charging capability (11kW is the fastest it can charge) it would easily be the best EV other than a Tesla. As I have no real requirement for Rapid, for my circumstances I do consider it (currently) the best EV other than a Tesla.
The BMW i3 doesn't handle as well on its skinny tyres, the Golf isn't as quick (but is as nice inside), the LEAF is an ugly mofo and not as comfy, the ZOE can do 170+ miles but is built like a small Renault both in size and material quality.
The Hyundai Ioniq EV is getting solid praise and appears very efficient (managing 5-6 miles per kWh compared to 3-4 for the Merc) but there are no deals of note yet.

Mine is same colour but without the blue 'highlights' and stupid stickers on the back doors (and quite nice 17" graphite wheels rather than the 18" diamond cut messes on the video model)

Interesting reading some peoples thoughts about electric cars and preferring the range, security or whatever justification of a PHEV or something with a petrol range extender saying they'd only use one or two tanks/year. That would bring it's own problems. Petrol goes off. Ethanol based fuel i.e. E10 petrol only has a shelf life of 90-100days.
I put my bike away usually end of November or early December with a tank of 102 RON Ultimate petrol in it. When it breaks cover in late February/early March that first tank of petrol is not great. It starts and runs but that first tank of fuel burns about 20% faster than subsequent tanks. I don't run the bike while it's off the road in the garage, just plug in a battery conditioner to keep the electrics healthy.
