It’s Richard Osman’s fault, don’t blame me, he’s not on until 7.00 at the moment. Got to do something while I’m waiting. 😉

Or a week of Sundays experienced by everyone between Christmas and New Year.

I used to love Sundays. In fact we used to refer to it as Funday. The one day we would always try to go and do something that was nothing to do with work or other commitments. The time to get outside and do a bit of diem carping!

I committed road rage today and even Espadrille said I was justified.
I join the M60 every morning at a roundabout where there is a dedicated slip road so no need to enter the roundabout; you simply exit the road coming up to the roundabout via a sliproad and join the motorway slightly after the roundabout slip road joins it.
Today I was following an old Subaru Forester with dashcams front and back. It was driving very slowly but I could not overtake as the traffic on my outside was heavy and going faster then me. I kept back but as we approached the slip road it slowed down and as we went round the slip road it slowed even more so that as we got near to the motorway, it was doing only 26mph. I flashed, hooted, urged it to speed up, principally from a safety perspective, as a mile ahead there is another junction with fast moving traffic crossing several lanes to exit. In the end, I gave up, managed to find a small gap and put my foot down, crossing a short distance before the solid white line ended.
I was really worried that I would be stuck behind this guy, unable to get across the carriageway before I reached the lanes which go straight rather than automatically exiting. The driver appeared to be looking for traffic coming around the roundabout despite it being a dedicated slip road and together with his speed and dash cams suggested he was a poor driver or lacking in confidence. Not the sort of person to be driving at rush hour onto the motorway.
Espadrille was with me and usually she would have given me a lashing for putting her in danger, but this time she was worried we would get trapped and was glad we got away.
Having seen a few dashcam videos compilatons, it seems to me that the ones where the 'cammer' is involved in an incident, they are the ones who are speeding or not looking around them. Suprised that cars are not fitted with them as standard these days, given all the other tech there is on cars.

There seemed to be 2 types of driver on the UK motorways last week in my eyes: those doing 80mph or more with impunity (no fear of cameras, or knowledge of no cameras), and the hesitant 50mph crowd. Sometimes made it tricky for people like me wanting to cruise at 70-75.
Curious to observe an Irish registered 40-tonne truck bowl past me doing around 80 on the M25 near Cobham! Didn’t think they could go that fast?!

Noticed a huge amount of personalised prat plates, most of them incomprehensible to anyone but the driver. Oh well their money I guess. Just can’t see the point myself!

In the end, I gave up, managed to find a small gap and put my foot down, crossing a short distance before the solid white line ended...his speed and dash cams suggested he was a poor driver or lacking in confidence. Not sure about the assumption dashcam=poor driver, there are so many nutters out there I have mine as an insurance against he said, she said. I don't publish on uChoob or any other forums or submit to TV production companies. Some people have extremely vivid imaginations after an event, especially in groups or where cash may have changed hands. The first point about the solid white line. You can only cross to pass a cyclist, horse or road maintenance vehicles traveling <10 mph (or accessing adjacent property or side road but excluded as this was an urban motorway). If viewed in isolation, disconnected from the situation, how would it look ? A TS20 or TS50 on your licence can cause you additional insurance costs for four years.

Oh I know... not overly impressed with myself, but had it been caught on video as opposed to a still photo, I think the safety angle might have succeeded in overturning any points. It is a very difficult junction, which I have to face twice a day. In the morning, I have to get from an inside lane, across two other lanes to reach a lane which does not automatically take me the wrong way, at the same time as traffic is coming from over my right rear at high speed and wants to go the way I don't. And I have to do all that in under half a mile.
In the evening, I am the one coming from behind in an outside lane, trying to get across three lanes to an exit, with two lanes of traffic trying to get onto the motorway to go straight ahead. I am surprised that there are very few accidents, given the speed and volume of vehicles. For a car to be doing an indicated 26mph or less is frankly very unsafe in that situation.

I'm not judging. I suspect nothing you say would overturn it. Solid white lines are one of the 'just don't' rules.
I'm always amazed at the number of people who don't see or understand what the different dividing markings are for. I'd have solid white lines and cameras on approach to a motorway exit from the 300 yard marker boards for the outside two lanes to stop the last second exit divers. It would also force proper design of junctions rather than cramming as many into the shortest distance thinking the carnage from Lobley Hill to Swalwell passed the Metro Centre in Gateshead, five junctions in four miles including one of the biggest shopping centres in the country turns the A1 into a car park in December.

We are talking about the second bullet point. I am not condoning my action, merely stating what I did and why. If I am 'found out' I shall take the rap for it.
