Son #1 was driving two weeks ago when his car was hit by another car coming out of a side road. Thankfully no one was hurt and the ther driver admitted responsibiity. The damage to the 2015 Seat Ibiza was to the rear passenger door, sill and wing. Geometry testing indicated no damage to the suspension.
The car cost about £6,000 in June 2021. The approximate cost the repairs I think is several £000s but it has not been written off and is now in the garage. He has taken delivery of a Focus estate ST-line automatic which he is enjoying very much although in reality it is far too big for his needs.
Coincidentally, I was in London on Thursday on business. He announced he was coming home for the weekend so offered to drive me home - and obiously take advantage of dad buying him dinner and paying for the fuel which I can claim back from the client... I have not spent so long and so far in a car with him when he was driving.
Surprisingly, given his earlier reputation (several crashes almost all his fault), his driving was not too bad at all and the Focus was a perfectly pleasant place to sit as a passenger. I was slightly surprised at the firmish ride given what appear to be deep section tyres but not so bad I was uncomfortable. It took about 3 and half hours to get from north London to north Manchester including two 50mph sections and heavy rain for a period. Under the circumstances it could have been a lot worse.
