I try to avid the Woodhead or Snake passes - not that I go over them much these days. Probably once a year in recent years. M62 is hit or miss (in both senses!). I love the long high speed drop down from J22, but only if there are sensible people around you. Mimsers make it a chore - and then you hit the 50mph section which drones on for miles for no good reason.

Car went into the independent garage today for replacement oil seals on the turbo and manifold baffle(?) and V-belt. £417 compared to £675 at the main dealer. Apparently a not uncommon problem on this 3.0 V6 and the comment from the mechanic was that the V-belt had stretched due to the oil leak from the baffle and was not that far from some serious damage. Just shows how important an annual service.
I know this probably shouldn't be the case, but the car felt sharper this afternoon. Somehow less lethargic (not that it can be called lethargic), but definately just a quicker off the mark and at low speed, more eager.

Snow overnight and I had the car booked in for new rear tyres this morning... Car facing up the steep driveway. Manage to turn it 90 degrees, but it starts sliding towards a rockery....and ends up acress the drive blocking entry and egress for all vehicles. Seeing sense I stop making a fool of myself and spply some slat and go in for breakfast. 20 minutes later there is enough grip to get the car facing down the driveway and I very gingerly trickle may way down the back of the footpath before I hit a passing car. I've been there before as Humph will remember . A few more minutes later, I make my way to the tyre place and have the rear tyres swapped out for new Falkens, which come recommended for good wet grip and low noise. Allegedly poor economy, but in a 3.0 V6 averaging 30mpg how would I know? Its hardly going to drop down to 25mpg is it. Having only driven one mile or less on the new tyres I can only make one comment; the rear was clearly much grippier on snow, but I suspect that would have happened anyway whichever tyre I swapped onto. As an aside, a bloke in a large GL Mercedes arrived at the tyre place when I was there. His tyres were as smooth as a steamroller and clearly well illegal. The fitters appeared to know him well, but didn't have his mobile number and could only contact him via Facebook. He gave them a number "it's a new one...". Somehow I suspect his business dealings are not 100% visible to the taxman...

Having the front tyres replaced today. One has a very slow puncture (losing 15psi in two weeks), the other two rips in the sidewall. Decided that after 22,000 miles it was time for change. Putting the Falkens on again at £98 a corner.

Ah, I see..... The other front tyre has two rips in the sidewall, rather than the other two front tyres have rips in the sidewall. You had me worried for a moment about a freak five-wheeled monster prowling Manchester.

Aye.
The last time I visited Edinburgh for any length of time a young lady climbed above a bus shelter and removed all her top clothing revealing a well-endowed bosom to the masses on Hogmanay.
I'm sure my wife will be hoping that this is not repeated.

I'm sure my wife will be hoping that this is not repeated. I've been in some rough places in my time, but quite honestly, Edinburgh (in a bar on Rose Street) is the only place I've ever seen two women fighting (literally) tooth and nail. Blood, hair, nails and skin all over the place. ....other than that.....

It used to be a thing to try to have a drink in all 37 bars in Rose St in one night. Best to stick with halves really...

When I was in Berlin, there was the beer festival. About one mile of beer stalls down Karl Max Allee. Pay 3.5Euro for a 250ml glass and then 2.5Euro per fill. no-one drunk, everyone happy, great beer from all around the world. An enjoyable couple of hours on a Saturday night just watching people.

Well, we're here. Nice drive up; so much easier than driving to London. Stopped in Lockerbie and visited the Garden of Rememberance for the Pan Am disaster and then at the nearby service station with a lovely lake to enjoy a picnic.
Staying just south of the city centre in an Airbnb directly opposite a bus stop so very easy access into town. Done two shows already. So far everyone happy and the rear passengers did not complain.
The best bit of the journey was a straight section on the A702, with six cars in front of me and a straight open road...., into S, indicate, check mirror for the second time and GO! Sailed past all six, mind you getting to rather illegal speeds, but the car was smooth as silk.
Happy days

Reaching down for the S button seems odd when you’re focused on checking everything is clear ahead and behind for an overtake. You only need the lower gear for a moment, which is what the left clicky-paddle is for, I’d have thought — or just let your right foot override everything. S is more for when you want the box to favour lower gears over a sustained period — which tends to be all the time for me, unless I’m on a fast A-road or a motorway.
(I know — you share a pleasant memory and suddenly everyone’s a critic. 🤓)
