No, the thought did occur to me that that might be an outdated trope. Although perhaps Mercedes wheels are an exception; if what the tyre shop told me last year about their vulnerability to cracking is true, there may be a ready market for low-cost replacements.

Silver I think. I’m sure I’ve got some Hammerite somewhere… 😬 This is my plan for the Corolla. The trims are knackered and ugly, the wheels are rusty black steelies underneath. Daughter and I fancy a spray painting project. Silver has been chosen. The only thing which baffles me is that I'd like to get some hub caps to go over the centre of the wheels. But search for hub caps online and you only get wheel trims. Where to get little black proper hub caps, i.e. caps for the hubs, not wheel trims?

Isn’t that exactly what scrapyards are for?

Finding hub caps, you mean? Maybe, I'll drop into my local one sometime then.

Real people in brown coats with levers and wax manually manipulating metal. None of this 3D printy plastic.

...although 3D printy plastic would be just fine, wouldn't it?

3D printy plastic would be perfect. I'm looking for smaller than those lovely metal ones above - literally just a cap to go over the centre nut, just to tidy it up a bit.

Don’t underestimate inertia Al. It has been good to me over the years. 😉

Well, is this the beginning of the end? Had to change a number plate lamp this weekend. Better start looking at new cars I suppose! 😉

Good grief! How long have you had the thing? I didn't know a Mercedes still had bulbs that needed replacing.

It’s 8.5 years old, and yes it’s an LED unit. But one of them had failed. Replaced both as it involves taking a trim panel off and is a wee bit fiddly. 10 minute job though. Felt quite manly. 😉

Did you have to disassemble the interior of the tailgate or just remove the outside strip ?
Two LED licence plates bulbs for a Mercedes, that'll be the pension for this month gone, baked beans and jacket spuds for the rest of the month.

His fellow swimmers will be able to find him by following the trail of bubbles.
