Always worth putting it into a main dealer's workshop once a year, if only for peace of mind - and so your shiny, well-maintained E doesn't end up like Vić's. 😈

Mine was shagged before I got my grubby mitts on it (as a certain Woking Class Hero is wont to point out, I struggle to spot a lemon in a fruit bowl). I promise to take far better care of the Beige Dowager Duchess, should I be deemed worthy of her hand.

He's talking to me. I had a little incident a few years back. My drive is a short, steep slope down to a main road. It snowed overnight.....
I've learnt my lesson. There is a nice lay-by at the top of the side road facing my house. When snow is threatened, we park there.
Not certain she likes being called The Beige Dowager Duchess.... Given her overtaking antics last week up the A15, I think she is more like a very attractive but sexually repressed Duchess in her late 40s, seeking some thrills away from her boring husband...

Just at the moment, I wish it weren't true. I'm wedged into seat 12C in a packed KLM Embraer waiting for a departure that may be 45 minutes late. The seat is covered in something that looks like leather but that's where any similarity to a comfortable thing ends.
The row behind me, incidentally, is row 14. Lufthansa does this too, presumably because of all those famous incidents where everyone emerged unscathed except for those in row 13.

Could be worse. Swiss have this annoying practice on A330s of jumping numbers from Business Class to Cattle Class. So row 53 isn't behind the tail, but actually you have your nose in the curtain separating the comfy business seats from the wooden benches behind. Always catches me out.

Flight to Sardinia recently was aboard a McDonnell Douglas plane, one with twin engines either side of the tail and none on the wings. MD80 or something, I'm not an expert. On the return flight they allowed people seated in the rear half to board through a door at the rear of the plane, underneath the tail. Felt a bit odd, that, going in from behind. Charge you extra for that in Amsterdam, btw WDB. When I first saw the plane I thought it must have been about 30/40 years old, but it didn't feel like it inside, nor once in the air. Very steep take off path. Nice Italian sandwiches with cheese and avocado paste. Next flight I expect to take will be to Sydney, via some as yet unchosen part of the far east I expect, most likely on some shonky airline with a poor safety record.

Alitalia had no money until Etihad bought in, so kept its MD 80 and 88 fleet long after everyone else had adopted the A320 family. (Alitalia's website still shows an MD interior as the title picture for Economy on its Classes page.)
Last I was in was a Delta one from Atlanta to Raleigh-Durham in 2014. I always rather liked them; the slim lines gave them an air of Sixties futurism, and they probably picked up a bit of that minimalist cool from Scandinavian Airlines too. My first trip to Denmark was aboard an SAS MD 80.
Nothing minimal about the noise, though, or the fuel consumption, which is why those who could afford newer planes dumped the MDs in the early 2000s.
