Calais...

Got pulled by the Polizei on the way over to The Mosel.
Spotted the manned speed trap from a long way away, and was comfortable I was under the limit unless I'd missed some signs, but still got guided into a lay-by.
Very civil officer asked if I spoke German, then said he wanted to see the vehicle papers and driving licences.
They're locked away in a safe, so as I went to find them, he said, I've got one a bit like this, mind if I have a look?
Had a good nose round comparing his 'van to ours, cursory look at the papers,asked us where we were going and then advised us the direct route was closed, and which diversion to take. Wished us a good journey and away we went.
You can't help but feel guilty of something, though, can you.😎

Currently pitched twixt village and Mosel for under €10 per night inc electric, and off to taste some Riesling tonight.

Bike off in the direction of Trier tomorrow (and hopefully back again - either side of the river).
