Depends on the size of his gut you’d think.

Maybe so. Curious that this foolishness began with you being tempted by Vić’s attempt to decant your newly-retired bones into a frivolous little car with far too many things to waggle and twist. Perhaps such a gentleman has to be selective about the amount of waggling and twisting he commits himself to.

Now that post may indeed contain some valid and potentially valuable advice. Following advice has never been one of my more notable strengths unfortunately. 🤪

Those FIAT 124s also come with as a self-shifter. Sacrilege ? Maybe, though it is 2024 and the chances of going anywhere where you can really make use of the stirring stick, third pedal and having to synchronise between throttle and clutch pedal, it all seems a bit excessive these days. Unless, you were inclined to take it on a track day. Given some struggle to keep a pushbike shiny side up, don't want to think about A over T in a car.
Still, a smart little toy to supplement the throw the bikes in the back Jeep, unless you're still humping a transit van load of stuff around on a regular basis ?

You are also a very bad man! 😉 No, “if” I were to buy one, it’d have to be a manual.

There are two FIAT 124's near me that are really nice cars... One in dark grey and the other looks black. Both with silver colour windscreen surround so maybe that was standard.
I think the FIAT looks better externally than the Mazda but probably very similar inside. But is the 1.4T petrol in the FIAT/Abarth versions better than a 1.5l or 2.0l naturally aspirated Mazda engine? I'm not sure.
I also agree a Renegade looks better than a 500X. But then the 500 derivatives have become too bloated.

Much as a little two seater convertible appeals to me, I’ve really got to think about what I’d do with it. Most of my daytime journeys now involve the shifting of bikes, people and attendant gear to mtb venues. Otherwise, I use the car in the late evenings to go to the gym/pool so a convertible wouldn’t be much use for most of the year as it would be dark! Then, for holidays etc, we like to take our bikes and other stuff that wouldn’t fit in such a car. I fear it wouldn’t get used as much as I’d like it to. However, you know how it goes, and there is of course another part of me that reminds me that I can, for the first time in decades, do exactly what I want, when I want!

C word. Then you have somewhere dry to change before/afterwards and even the option of a cold/warm/hot shower.
It's not like you're going to be driving everywhere over 60mph with the roof down.

For holiday trips you could put the Fiat on a trailer behind your self-propelled C-word. Or is bpg proposing the 124 as the tow vehicle?

I meant caravan not camp-er-van so yes, the 124 would be the propellant.

No doubt Humph would be equally delighted either way.

I have perhaps ill advisedly, now mentioned this vague line of thought to “her”. She’s 60 this year and now thinks a 124 Spyder would be a more than appropriate marker of that event. Jeez! 😬
