Just explain to Mrs A that she is the problem here. I’m sure she’ll see reason and want to help. 😉

Sorry Vić, I must have lost track of who’s advocating what. It can get confusing around here sometimes.

Don't worry, I'm permanently confused by just about everything these days. I need a lie down. About 25 years should do it.

Ok lines of least resistance maybe? Mrs A likes and wants a Leaf or equivalent/better. Fine, you have one. You would also like a versatile estate car for uni trips, holidays etc. Fine, you have one. At some point Miss A would like to learn to drive. She could learn how to drive an automatic in either of those cars and that may well be enough to serve her well in her future. However, if it subsequently became important to her to have a manual licence, then if she already held an automatic one it shouldn’t take more than a few lessons in a manual to get her up to speed to pass that one too. Ergo, bin the Corolla and use any cash it raises to pay down the debt on the others.

I'd rather she learns in a manual, and that's her stated preference too.
You're all coming at this from a perspective that I've asked for advice in solving a problem. I really haven't. I'm just chewing the fat and spinning out ides, for the sake of giving myself some kind of entertainment and distraction form the drudgery of my miserable working days.
I'm not at a point where I "need" to save any money - it's just always best to spend as little as possible, whilst fulfilling whatever needs there are.

Well, if you’re keeping the Corolla, it might be worth taking it out for a spin now and then. It’ll sort of atrophy if you don’t. (I know this because I’ve seen Bangers and Cash) Derek would tell you to use it or lose it I’m sure. 😉

Tricky without MOT and VED paid. I am punting it up and down the driveway, in and out of the garage, and sticking it on a battery conditioner every now and again. Tyres pooofed up to prevent flat spots.
I need "the man" to come and fit the new front brake calipers before it goes for MOT.

What, you think I should do it myself, the calipers?
Nay lad, not touching brakes. Far too important for my rudimentary "skills".

It's good to know your limitations, calipers, especially new ones with working bleed nipples only need a £10 one way non-return valve to bleed. If you're not happy with the pedal feel after that then get your man in to fine tune it.
I should really get rid of two cars and go down one, a diesel PHEV being my choice that would work for me. The issue is the €90k I'd have to sink into a depreciating asset. That's where leasing steps in, right ? €15k deposit and 800-1000/month and have nothing after three or four years or ca.€40k balloon payment. Leasing works for companies it suits the cashflow needs. For a private individual it locks you in to the most expensive part of the depreciation curve AND the most expensive main dealer servicing. Crazy.
I can see why inertia wins in this situation.
