1,030 miles into ownership of the Ioniq 5. Driving has been a mix of motorway, country roads, urban and suburban driving. At present the average economy is 3.6 miles per kWh which equates to a real life range of a minimum of 260 miles on a full charge. I drive in regular mode (not Eco or Power), using a/c, radio, SatNav and wireless charging of my phone. I am happy with this and I am learning to avoid range anxiety. My next big trip is down to London in three weeks with lots of running round once we are there. If I can survive that challenge, I will have cracked it. I have also found that Level 2 regenerative braking is better in that Level 3 in most environments for smooth driving and getting improved range. But swapping around Levels is easy with clicky paddles.
So apart from the usual questions of range, charging etc, what else??
Likes. It is very intuitive to use. The controls are simple, obvious with few gotchas or hidden features that you need to read the small print in the manual to find. The use of the big second screen in the middle of dash is easy and the SatNav is as effective in real time traffic etc as Waze/Google maps - in fact today when I was about to be stuck in traffic on the M60, the car's SatNav was better than Google for the alternative route. The seats are comfortable and the ride on 20" wheels is certainly a little better than the Merc on smaller wheels. I like the flat bottomed steering wheel, and the all round cameras are very good. The 'auto pilot' cruise control works well. Whilst the boot is no match for the old Merc, two of us went away at the weekend with the dog without space issues (no mean feat with Espadrille in tow).
Dislikes - not many. The second screen can be a stretch for short armed people like me. I am disappointed that Hyundai saw fit to remove the electric handles from the 2022 model cars, even top of the range cars with all the option packs. Opening the doors involves pushing the handle in at one end which flips out the other end which you grab and pull - a pfaff...
General comments. The interior trim is fine but as I think I have said before it is not up to Lexus quality even if the fit and construction are very good. everythig feels solid and well built. I have seen a couple on the road. Some people wave, others seems to be grumpy and don't acknowledge. Given how rare these are - I have seen more Kia EV6s that's for sure - I am surprised.
Overall - very happy indeed. Will report further at say 2,500 miles, 5,000 and 10,000. Can't imaging there will be much else to say.
Hoping the weather improves so I can use the ventilated seats!!

I rarely used the ventilated seats I had on the Passat CC. My wife did not like them at all.
Sounds like a good car. I doubt if the auto pilot cruise is any better than many cars have had for quite a few years now. The VW system in the Skoda Superb worked very well and I used it a lot over the 3 years I had the car.

Sounds like you are happy, Esp, which is the most important thing!
I’ve done over 500 miles in the past couple of days in some pretty inclement weather. 2 overnight stays on the road and 2 early starts. Have to say I am glad that I didn’t have to give any thought to fueling/recharging and range anxiety.
Each to their own though!
Also came home with 20 citrus trees in the boot and rear footwells - wouldn’t have wanted to do that in a new car!

Sounds encouraging, Esp. 3.6 is comparable to the similarly-sized (but less capacious) iX3 when I was driving it. It’s important that our EVs work well as cars, not novelties, so it’s impressive if it rides better than an E, which is such a good thing to travel a long distance in. Those door handles might put me off, though. Is it a shortcut to get around a chip supply problem, perhaps? Given how rare these are — I have seen more Kia EV6s… They must all be down south. I’ve seen quite a few, including one last week parked outside the Albert Hall. (Would have been more of a surprise inside. 🤓) I’ve seen only a couple of EV6s. Memo to self: try an Ioniq 5 (and an EV6) while the memory of the iX3 is fresh.

Didn’t realise it had 20 inch wheels Esp! I wouldn’t fancy buying tyres too often 😂

Big car, big wheels. I do sometimes miss my old E, with its 16in rims and parsimonious attitude to rubber.

Vented seats are another one of those I didn't know I wanted it until I used it options. Handy in a BEV to avoid using the AC, even with AC on it's a must have with vegan leather.
Edit: the South Koreans have their quirks around door handles. With our KIA you have to press the button on the front door handle for the keyless entry to work. No additional button presses are required for the boot lid, it uses proximity to detect the key back there.

Lack of electric door handles I think is related to the chip shortage. I hope so at least....I would be rather cheesed off if not.
The car does not unlock as I walk up to it (the mirrors extend though), but the boot will open if I stand there for about three seconds. I also have a button to press which unlocks the car and I can also do it from the phone.
Strangely the app on the phone give me a longer range at 100% than the car does. BUt when I get in the car and drive it for a distance, the combination of miles driven and miles remaining get close to the figure on the app.

Read a review of the Ioniq 5 today commenting on the lack of rear wiper and how's it's been a bit of a pain. But also that the car now has the option of a camera and electronic rear view mirror.

Neither of the reversing cameras of my cars is much use after a couple of hours of driving in rain and spray.

This isn't a reversing camera - it's a camera for an electronic LCD rearview mirror. So a bit like the one on Land Rovers I guess.
I never had a problem with visibility for the reversing camera on the Superb but then to specify the camera you had to go for the optional (free) extra that was a rear wash wipe. There must have been a feed from the washer fluid line to the camera. So ironically if you didn't have the rear wiper on a Superb at that time, you not only had poor rear visibility but you also couldn't have the camera to compensate.
VW and MB's use of a pop up badge on the boot lid seems a clever way of keeping it clean but makes for a more complicated setup.
The reversing camera on the 330e was never a problem and that of course didn't have a rear wiper.

It is a bit of a pain but the side mirrors are huge and with the help of the rear camera (hwoever grubby) I rarely feel blind at the back.

Booked the car in for a full detail, ceramic coating and coating of the front and rear window. £600 and it will take three days! Compared to the chap who was charging £100 and a couple of hours... I think I will get a good job. Been to the guy's premises and it looks all above board. The 25 year old Honda Civic VTec he was doing had paintwork like a mirror.
In the meantime, today I went to Melton Mowbray - just so you know the Halfords there is closing down at the end of July so there may be some bargains if you want. The total journey was 235 miles which the car did on one charge with 16% remaining. Effectively 280 miles range with air con running, radio on, phone charging, Satnav operating etc etc. A mix of mostly dual carriageway and motorway crusing between 65mph and 72mph, country roads at about 40mph - 55mph and the final few miles of nose to tail traffic from Junction 19 M6 through Manchester to home north of the city centre at rush hour.
I was trying to avoid range anxiety but as I could see that at one point I had a buffer of only 25 miles between my destination (55 miles away) and zero charge I scooted off the motorway to find some power. The BP Pulse station at the Costa in Longton (Stoke) looked very new, so new that there were no reference numbers on the three charging stations, none of the machines would work with my credit card and also on the app I had downloaded last week. Not overly impressed especially when the helpdesk I called was not able to help.
In the end I got home with 40+ miles buffer which shows that urban traffic is perfect for an electric car. I have learnt a lesson that I probably should have done a quick top up at the service station at the eastern end of the A50 where I stopped for coffee but at that point I was determined to make it home without recharging.
So a mixed emotion day, but I know what the car can do and it does seem that it has bedded in as the range has increased a little in the few weeks since I took delivery. Otherwise, the car just gets on with the job, smoothly, comfortably and without fuss.
Surprised at the amount of traffic on the roads with the price of fuel but as I mentioned a few weeks ago, in real terms I think road fuel is still probably a little cheaper than it was in about 2012, when unleaded reached about 145.9ppl.
A rule of thumb over the last 30+ years is that inflation has run at about 35% every ten years (something I need to know for leasehold valuations with rising ground rents); so 145.9ppl then would make 196.9ppl now. Tesco is selling UL at 181.9ppl. Make of that what you will.

If you're planning to keep the car the detailing is a good idea. I had my RS and Volvo detailed, the RS looked better than new when it went back. I should have got my ST done, I did it myself but not to pro standard.
Looking at used prices here, if the chip shortage holds to end of 2023 I will be able to buy my car at the end of lease and get the buyout money plus my monthly lease payments back on a three year old 15,000 miles car.
Thanks for the petrol price updates here and in the fuel price thread. Just relieved my car doesn't run on litres of beer.

Effectively 280 miles range with air con running, radio on, phone charging, Satnav operating etc etc. That’s both impressive and encouraging. And yes, a lunchtime or teatime boost will take that beyond what you’d need for even the longest day out. Not sure I understand what you’re having done to a car that’s still factory-fresh. Will be interested to hear your thoughts on the hydrophobic (presumably) glass treatment, though. I declined the option on the CLS’s replacement screen on the grounds that it claimed to solve a problem I don’t think I have.
