Much as you like the 5, Esp, (and I am warming to it too finally), the 6 looks a lot funkier! Have you done a side-by-side comparison?

No - but that is on the list. The only thing that puts me off the I6 at the moment is the boot rather than a hatch. When the dog finally goes to its kennel in the sky, I would want a saloon. But a blanket over the back seat would work.

I’ve tried both and sadly the 6 is a fail — for me, at least, but given how few I see, for other people too. Up to the B pillars, it’s great, but behind that you have a lot of car containing a back seat I can barely get into and a boot that’s both small and inaccessible. It’s a fabulous idea — that would really work as a CLS-style shooting brake, with a higher rear roofline and seat cushion — but it just doesn’t deliver most of what people want from a car that size.
The EV6 has headroom and low-seat problems too but it’s a better bet if you want something more rakish than an Ioniq 5. And I see a lot of EV6s around.

I have a dilemma which is I can't decide if I need a car than can hold four people comfortably (in which case the I5 is perfect), or a have a smaller car where the back seats are 'occasional' and the boot is smaller than I have now, but I can put the back seats down when space is needed. In which case there are various options. Whilst I like the EV6, I prefer the interior of the I5.

Bigger problem you'll probably have is downsizing an EV means downsizing the battery = downsizing the range, which is probably a no at this time.
I'm still thinking about an EV3 with 81kWh battery. It will have to offer the economy of the eSoul it will replace, 10.3kWh/100kms today or monthly average 11.8kWh/100kms is going to be hard to match nevermind beat.

I think I'll hang on to my Leaf for a while yet, but it'll be hard to resist a second hand Renault 5 EV in a couple of years. They are gorgeous.

That is impressive. My average 3.5 miles per kWh equates to 17.75kWh per 100km. And I'm happy with that, especially give my low overnight electricity costs.

Just looked at the KIA configurator it's FWD not RWD. I'm sure I read it was RWD, obviously not.
Same setup as the eSoul then just in maybe a more market palatable shape with 460l boot.
Edit: To order the upgraded Harmon/Kardon sound system you have to order the stupid 19" wheels which add 2 or 3 kWh to the average consumption figure. Which genius in marketing decided that was a good idea ?

I’m very surprised to see cheap prices for the Ioniq 5 & 6 in these parts! You can lease a 58Kw Ioniq 5 for the same price as my dinosaur Forester. And there are 2023 ex-demo Ioniq 6s for sale for GBP22 grand! I thought they’d be well over 30 grand.
But, even more so than in the UK, EV sales here have stalled. Or rather sales of all cars has slumped this year.

Just idling a few minutes away earlier, there are loads of 77kWh AWD 325PS Ioniq 6s registered in 2023 or this year with 50kms or less for around 20k€ off list price.
Must admit the side profile is a bit challenging in light colours, especially white.
I'd definitely have a look if I were in the market for a new car though I'm probably a decade away from a saloon car to replace the estate. Maybe the stars are aligning, though Ioniq6 will be a long forgotten early adopter EV. We'll all have time machines doing 0-60 in -2 seconds by then.

I think I’ll always have an estate. Cue predictable sneery comments from “him” but I just find that configuration so useful so often. Moved progeny into his Manchester flat last week, short of a van, nothing else would have coped as well.

A Skoda Superb hatchback like I had and Al has now would move a lot more than you imagine. But you probably know the previous and current Superb Estate (and the latest Passat) has more internal space than your current estate. And then there's some SUVs with much more space.

I'm not sure anyone here has ever sneered at the idea of an estate? What?

Woah! Don't use Zero regen in traffic if you're not used to it.. The car runs away because there is not the equivalent of engine braking and you end up almost rear ending the car in front - ask me how I know....
Reverted to low level auto regen for urban driving, to save my sanity.
