Did you buy the car or is it leased or on some sort of PCP?

So don't tamper with the electrics to get a 12v socket in the boot you will never use.

Boot socket I could live without. But the door handles could be very irritating, since you use them every day. Surprised that they dumbed-down such a “first impression” feature!

Sounds brill, EIII. Your point about the 150 mile coffee/pee stop plus quick charge is the correct one to make about long journeys. We should stop trying to make EVs work like ICEs and have that full-to-empty-to-full mindest. Make use of natural breaks to obtain as much charge as you can whilst stopped, rinse and repeat. Range worries disappear. Well, they do in mature EVs like yours, different matter in my old, early adopter one.

If you had the cash you could swap out the battery in yours for a much larger one - like Robert Llewellyn did on his. More than doubled his range I think.

Yes I have thought about it, but the cost would be roughly equivalent to upgrading to a newer Leaf with the bigger battery anyway, so not really worth doing to be left with a car which is ageing in all the other traditional ways also. But in reality I'm not much bothered about the limited range, we are always going to run 2 cars so for now a local one and an occasional long range one with a petrol engine is fine. I would need to have to spend so, so much more money to get a significantly longer range EV that it wouldn't be worth it.

I needed/wanted to get 300km non-stop under my belt last weekend en route to the Vaterland (3 hours)…. Hmm.

Then in a world of pre-2022 EVs, which you're never going to have to live in, you would have adjusted your plans accordingly to accomodate. But as I said, mature ones like EIII's will do that easily.

Our 2020 BEV will do 400kms between stops. My 2020 petrol car, on an autobahn, will not run more than two hours max at autobahn speeds without a stop for fuel.

…and my little 2021 EV popped up 320km (or the equivalent in furlongs) as its full-charge range on Sunday.

A curious thing has happened. My trip to Alloa has done something strange to the algorithm for working out range. Having done about 480 miles in one day at highish speeds such that the energy use rose to 3 miles/kWh from the more usual 3.7-4.0, the car has been displaying a range after a full charge of only between 215 - 225 miles. Even though my regular driving is still in the 3.7-4.0 range and after say 100 miles, the aggregate of miles driven since the last charge and the miles remaining has crept up to 245/250, the calculated range after a full charge remains low.
I wonder how long it will be before it spots it own error and corrects itself. Perhaps the 480 miles was such a large proportion of the vehicle's life to date, it will take a while to 'reset'?

Yes, just that, I expect. And possibly that an earlier period of slower driving, in cooler weather that drew less on the AC, has now dropped out of its calculation.

Yes - cooler weather may be to blame. Certainly the cooler temps up north this weekend are giving me some nice energy figures now.
