Lazy to say it’s ‘the EU’. The purchases are made independently by EU member states. There is no EU policy on where to buy energy, although it does now have a plan, REPowerEU, for reducing the overall dependence on imported fossil fuel, especially from Russia. Even that, though, stresses that it’s to ‘underpin’ the member states’ own plans.

Meanwhile, the EU is continuing to pay Russia a billion Euros/day for energy... I appreciate that we can’t turn the gas taps off overnight but surely some contingency plans were made for this eventuality? Next up: the Chinese can’t or won’t supply our cheap consumer goods. Architects of our own downfall really. And Ukrainians will have to die because we want to keep the lights on. And Boris is where right now ? Doing a deal with India to replace all the Poles and Rumanians with people from the subcontinent. A country who has agreed a deal with Russia to take its surplus oil and gas at mates rates. Edit: It would not surprise me if the Daily Express runs a story in a few weeks how Britain has signed an amazing energy deal with India and up yours EU without the slightest hint of irony. Start really analysing any countries behaviour and no one really comes out looking very good.

The attack on Kyiv yesterday was especially outrageous given that the UN head was there at the time. Where is this all going? Are we headed for a major international conflict with possible nuclear attacks or will it be a long term war of attrition. What happens when Putin finally laves the Kremlin - whichever way he goes?
Very depressing news today.

I thought it was risky to bomb/strike Kyiv with the UM head there... but what could/would the rest of the world do if he was injured or killed?
Putin is said to need to show some sort of victory in time for the May day parade.... he's got about 10 days.... Or does he wait for 2023?
With the offensive weapons said to be on the way to the Ukraine this is going to continue for some time.

I read yesterday that we are apparently (UK that is) going to provide Brimstone missiles mounted on vehicles (normally air launched) to attack landing craft. And more advanced anti-aircraft missiles. Putin needs to be 'removed' from his position.
