It's is nice car, good combination of age and mileage and sensibly priced. But I would only buy if you were going to keep for a long time...

I'd be looking at keeping for 7 years. Which is unusual for me. In that context it's probably justifiable, but immediate cash flow is the conundrum.

I can see the appeal for your purposes. Bit out of your stated budget though? Isn’t the boot exaggerated by the high sides and tiny windows? (Not that those windows are as important as journos pretend; the CLS has squashed three-quarter windows too and it’s not a problem, even driving on the right.) I think Humph’s shoes would fit if they were all narrow fittings, otherwise they might not fit between the suspension towers. Solid car, no doubt. Current Honda aesthetics are challenging, though — to put it mildly.

I think that's quite a handsome looking car. Better in estate form than hatch. Nose is a bit low, that's all that discombobulates me, might make parking difficult. Perhaps there's a concern over rearwards visibility for the parkingly challenged also... I do keep going back to that red Avensis estate. If only it wasn't red. Two DCR cars on the drive? Cuthbert, Dibble, Grubb. Reminder: www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201909272683086This one's nice too, but the price, hmm... Bit high for what it is? www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201910193486868

I think that red Avensis would do very well. I like red cars. "Her" Qashqai is red, which makes it a lot more visible to other road users and that has to be a bonus.
I may not have mentioned this before, but I used to have a red Westfield you know.
Edit - I need 1.0m between the wheel arches and a load length in excess of 1.6m as a by the way.

Avensises. The red one has a shocking MOT history, indicating a hard life. The silver one's is almost spotless, not even an advisory since a first MOT fail at 3 years old for a bulb. There is a mileage anomaly (one year lower than the previous), but the rest of it is consistent and is probably a typo. The driver's seat looks more worn than it should be at 47k miles, doesn't it?

The silver one is noticeably not an estate...

I'm sure the high price of the silver one is what they hope someone will pay because of the low mileage. It's quite near you: you could go and have a look and see if the seat has sagged or is just creased, as leather can. Low mileage seems plausible. Vision, perhaps, of a large elderly owner heaving themselves in for a lot of short journeys and sitting down heavily on to the seat. It's had a service every year which is good news.
Maybe get the cost to change down to £3,000 if you PX the Leaning Taxi?

Going back to the Civic for a mo, it would potentially be a fairly future proof buy, or at least, could last you a very long time if your annual mileage will be as low as you've previously said.
With a trade in and a bit of top up cash you'd probably be looking at +/- £200 a month to finance the rest over 4 years. If that's acceptable-ish then maybe that's a route?

The silver one is noticeably not an estate... Yes I know, large hatch (or saloon) would do us.

I could probably swallow £150 a month. Dealer would have to sharpen pencil in an extreme fashion I expect. And then what would I do for 7 years with a car I have absolutely no need to start massive threads about? Eh? Answer me that. Work is what. Work. Sod that, I've spent a lifetime avoiding it.

A hatch or saloon would never fail to disappoint, now that you have got used to having an estate.
By default, I moved from a Mondeo estate to a Qashqai at one time. Constantly found myself needing or wanting more room. ( not just for work )

Dealer would have to sharpen pencil in an extreme fashion I expect. That C looks pretty decent at first glance. Does it really have a 1.6 engine, though? Thought that came along in a later iteration of the C.
