>> The Allegro was more modern than either
Some rose-coloured spectacles in use there. It was a bloody awful car, both in form and function, and I briefly had one. What was modern about it? Never mind any damned good.

The inside is quite, erm, brown. Even the steering wheel is brown. Do you like brown?
On the Allegro, I was only suggesting that it was modern — front wheel drive and independent, hydraulic suspension — compared to the Escort, which was a rebodied 1950s car. I hold no brief for either. But I do think that estate is stylish in a late-70s way — even if it’s spoilt by the 80s ‘modernisations’.

Oh, I do like that Audi. It could go in (or even contain) my collection of late-70s electromechanical devices that I was too young to buy at the time and that my parents judged not worth affording. (To be fair to them, they were busy doing their version of Vić’s school-fee shuffle, so Audis weren’t really on their radar.)
Also from the days when Audis were plain but well thought-through, before they became the wankers’ playthings they are today.

I mean that Laguna is actually quite nice isn’t it?
Just the old thing about how lucky or otherwise one might feel if it was on their drive…

Two sunroofses, that should get WDB going.
I used to be able to coax 70mpg out of mine, although it was a manual.

I really like that Audi - as Dubya said - built when Audis were proper cars that rivalled Saab for intelligent drivers..
But the Laguna! That could easily be a rival for my late lamented Outback. Nice light coloured interior, sunroofs, auto and green (even better than my metallic beige Subaru). Very tempted...

I want that Laguna to be good, mainly because it looks like being ideal for you Al. Apart from the not being ULEZ and the potential vagaries of 14 year old French electrics it might well be OK. But, I’m not sure I’d be that much of a gambler… I can see the attraction though.

Here's another lovely green thing, which I expect you won't be quite so keen on, Dubya. Well, I see that it might work for someone. But it’s an awkwardly proportioned thing, and I’d struggle to get inside or get my feet on one pedal at a time. I’ll leave it, thanks all the same.

Clean and tidy... Low mileage and we have worn out all the reasons not to buy the 2.3 engine as you do so few miles yourself. Go on!!
