Not that I'm suggesting this of course, but if you knew of someone with a bit of private land, let's say a farm in Wales for example, you could use the Fabia to give the lad a bit of early driving practice. 😈 That's a nice idea, but my Mum would go ballsitic if we drove around the fields ruining the grass - she cuts it and sells the hay every year. There isn't really that much hard yard surface or driveway to give him a go in it, well teh driveway is about 1/4 mile but it's straight, narrow and quite rough. Not much fun. Also, there's no way I'm driving it that far unless I absolutely have to. I was a bit generous saying it's a 74bhp version, it's actaully a 59bhp version. It gives a nice wee throaty roar from its 3 cylinders, and it's what you would call nippy around town, but the lumbar support on the driver's seat is so bad I was in pain after doing the school run in it this morning, and having 4 people in it would sap the power even more on a longer run. I'll be leaving it on the driveway and using the Civic tomorrow. I think this model is really only for someone who absolutely needs the low insurance grouping.

Guess you are lucky it’s not your passport and credit card details that have inadvertently been disclosed, like on those scam visa websites.

Probably a fix then. If they were going to write it off I'd think they'd have told you by now. They don't want to be paying for your renter any longer than they have to.
Not sure how I'd feel about taking back a car that had been repaired. Probably just unreasonable prejudice on my part of course.

They aren't paying for a renter, the Fabia belongs to the bodyshop. I'm sure they charge the insurance company for use, but it'll be loads cheaper than a hire car.
I'm fine with taking the Leaf back, I've driven it and seen the damage to it and it's all superficial. Bolt off bolt on. No problem.
I just searched autotrader for comparable cars, they go for about £11k. So I'm at least 90% confident it won't be a write off.
Speaking of the Fabia, I had a little run in it round town on my own today. Absolutley brilliant town car and great fun because you HAVE to drive it flat out everywhere. Feels far perkier than it's got any right to. Too small for my likings as an ownership proposition of course. Would quite like to try a Skoda Rapid with the 1.2 TSI though.

I do like a nippy little hatchback.

If anything I think more power would ruin it as a town car. I'd not be wanting to do long distances in it though.

Fond memories of my Lupo 1.0 20 years ago... 😄.
Always found small cars more fun because there’s less weight/mass to chuck around. You’ve got accustomed to an EV loaded with heavy batteries Al...

Yes, but any EV redefines ‘lively’, especially at town speeds. No way I’d swap mine for a small petrol car.

Exactly, Dubya. I may have surprised the drivers of several German branded cars in the last few years.

The verdict on liability is in.
Our claim is being pursued on a non-fault basis, thanks to a witness coroborrating Mrs A's story. Evidently the other party's dashcam video didn't illustrate his version of events so he didn't submit it...apparently his story was that our car was in the left lane, and his was in the middle, and Mrs A tried to straight line him. Lying shit.
Now waiting to hear the verdit on the repair.
We will be reclaiming our excess from the third party's policy.

Good. Even what seems an open-and-shut case is full of opportunities for the unscrupulous, and for the lazy who just want it done quickly rather than well. You won't relax till it's really over, but this is a good start.

Sounds like their claim of dash cam footage is now counting against them too... why claim to have it and then not submit if it proved your position. We know it didn't so they could never use it - but they might have thought you'd cave in and maybe go 50/50 on the blame.
Hope it's fixed soon.

Insurers have instructed the bodyshop to repair, and not request the execss from us as it is covered by the other party's policy, so that's one less hassle, we won't have to pay the excess and claim it back.
Still don't know how long it will take to repair.
