They’re selling brand new Outlanders over here for under 17 grand on the road! 2wd, 2.4 petrol autos. Getting rid of old stock before the new model turns up in June. Quite a bargain, cheaper than the smaller Mitsi SUV siblings.

Going back to those ten points:
1/ At least a 5 on the Cheshire scale 2/ SUV 3/ Petrol 4/ Manual 5/ Up to, but not beyond 3 years old 6/ Up to but not beyond 25,000 miles 7/ Up to £12,000 8/ Not too small 9/ Not a Juke ( well, obviously ) 10/ Something I could drive occasionally without looking like Noddy.
So where does 'her with a Duster, you with a Mercedes' fall down? Point 1 possibly, but surely most of the Cheshire squirearchy don't know what a Dacia is, so no loss of street cred. And you can put the bikes on it.

It does sort of feel a bit that way sometimes...
She has seen another Renegade online. More or less the same as the one we looked at last weekend, but far fewer miles and black. 😬
I showed her what I thought was a very nice Cactus yesterday. Way cheaper, same age ( 2018 ) less miles etc, but I'm feeling like I'm trying to push jelly uphill.

I think, when it comes down to it, she is still a bit post traumatic about having to be cut out of the Ka she rolled years ago. It was pretty grim I suppose.
Since then, she has favoured "chunky". Which of course we all know is not necessarily an indication of safety, but visually it reassures her.

So am I. Chunky, I mean. Maybe I missed a trick not moving to Cheshire in my 20s.
Having been pulled out of the wreakage of a rolled MG Metro, I can see where she's coming from a bit. But I still prefer not to invest all my energy in to something's "appearance" when it comes to safety. I was a bit oibsessed by EURO NCAP ratings when the children were smaller, it's one of the things which dragged me in to buying a Renault Laguna. I don't think I'll ever be of the opinion that SUVs are inherently safer, I think the opposite actaully for the ordinary driver who doesn't look too far beyond the end of their nose. Worse for other people you hit, worse handling and higher up so more likely to tip, false sense of security, false confidence in roadholding ability in poor conditions. Form over function, in spades.

All you say is of course correct Al. But trying to convince my wife of that is a bit like trying to teach algebra to my dog. The head will turn from side to side but you just know that nothing is registering. In her case of course not due to lack of ability to understand, but a lack of willingness to.
Sometimes, one just has to follow the line of least resistance.
