Of course, no problem. Naturally it would almost certainly immediately decide to disintegrate if we did that. 😬 And if we did, I would in no way ever hold you even remotely responsible. Sold as seen. It's an old car.

The Jeep dealer we saw on Saturday has mailed me to offer me a pre-reg ( 70 plate ) Renegade with no miles for £17900. 1.6 diesel manual mid spec. "Night Eagle" in grey.
Which is a lot of money for what we want, but not really a lot of money for what it is I suppose.
If we were sure that we were buying another 10-12 year car, I might be tempted. But, it's hard to know what to say about these things what with all this electric mundungus going on.

But, it's hard to know what to say about these things what with all this electric mundungus going on. That wouldn't worry me too much. Nobody's going to stop anyone driving an ICE vehicle on most roads for 30 years yet. Having said that, owning a car with the most up-to-date emissions ratings as possible is a reasonable hedge, but personally I'd favour petrol because of some impending blanket bans on diesels which places like Bristol are otying with. Of course, maybe Mrs H doesn't really need to worry too much about range? Perhaps an MG ZS EV, dare I say it a Nissan Leaf 40/62kwh or similar would suit her, seeing as you still have the Merc and Aygo too?

She would be an ideal candidate for an EV. But, I have little to no chance of convincing her of that at the moment.
To give you some idea, the car she misses the most, and wishes we still had is our old 3.5V8 petrol Land Rover 90.

If you get the chance, just maybe, by accident, show her an MG ZS. Don't even say there's an EV version. If she doesn't dismiss it, go to a dealer and go for a drive in an EV version?
I mean, if the Dacia badge passes muster, why not an MG badge?

Aye, well, maybe.
Have you been to Cheshire?

For those who like a number to argue about, or an entry to put in a spreadsheet,
If 1= Pragmatic and Utilitarian,
and 10 = Frivolous and Conspicuous
Then my wife's tastes or natural inclinations are most probably at around 7.5. She can be persuaded or negotiated down to around 5 under duress, but it would take extreme measures to get her to countenance anything below that score.

Your scale really ought to begin at zero.

Scope creep is your problem now Humph. You had a vague budget in mind and suddenly a random offer from a dealer has you upping your budget by, what, 50-odd%?! As Al infers, think of all the other possibilities in this new budget ballpark! Or, revert to your original budget.
SWMBO is good at this, but the opposite way. She shows me something with a ridiculous price tag (like a 5 grand barbecue) and I panic and rage. When she then buys the 3 grand one I am all happy and relieved, and I forget to realise that A THREE GRAND BARBECUE IS STILL INSANE MONEY..!!! 😂. It’s all a clever ploy.

I know, I'm terrible for wanting just a bit more and spending a lot more to get it.

It’s human nature. Particularly with cars, there’s always something else/different/better for just a couple of grand more...
Not really sure who buys nearly new cars any more; the dealers always seem to be able to lure punters into a brand new (or pre-reg) car instead, with cheap finance, deposit contributions, etc. Why settle for second best? seems to be an attitude that they propagate!
If you are turning your mind towards new, then spec it how you would actually ideally like it to be and get some quotes? Which probably rules out a diesel?
I’d be wanting a close look at the Suzuki Vitara 1.4 petrol turbo. And aren’t new Qashqais and Jukes very affordable these days, if that’s what floats your boat? So much choice..!
