Especially as the exhaust needs walding. Sounds expensive. Welding is cheap but walding???

And, it's hideous. Manky old shed.

Interior looks mint, remarkably.

In case you missed it, it was a Volvo S40, about 2004 I think: a close relative of the not-very-charismatic Mitsubishi Carisma. Your near-namesake, the between-the-wars Dixi, built under licence from Austin, would have been more interesting to drive.
The missing link here must be - are there cars in which Alanovic Jr wouldn't be seen dead? Honda Jazz presumably - anything else? Or is he just grateful to his dad for offering to get him a car at all?

Well he's ruled out the Ford Focus, and anything with a Vauxhall badge. I think he'd be pleased with pretty much anything Japanese or Korean, provided it's a hatchback. However what he gets may be at odds with his "ideal". We shall have to wait and see. "interesting to drive" isn't really on the requirements list for a sub-£1500 old banger for a teenager. A Volvo S40 would be a magnificent choice, IMHO.
I expect the Volvo S40 I linked to sold immediately at that price (£390) with 7 months MOT, maybe a Deliveroo driver or some such snapped it up.

That was cheap motoring until the MoT runs out. May have even passed it again next time for little money.

🎼 Oh, I’d rather have a Punto than a Swift, Rather have a Punto than a Swift... 🎵
Quite like that Punto, in fact. Same colour as my mum’s 52 one, I think. No idea where it’s been, of course.

Suzuki Swift has ludicrously high insurange group rating for what it is. The bigger engines are even worse. 1.3 is the same insurance group as a Hyundai Coupe 1.6, and a Volvo C30 1.6. Al Jr has indicated a piqued interest in tboth those models. He can dream.
