Well, nothing new. I wasn't planning to use the Mini in any case. I remain pondering the future, but won't do anything until at least August unless I see some mad bargain, in the form of a suitable and insurable old car for the boy in the meantime and decide to go down that route.

Yep, if in doubt waiting and doing nothing for a while can be a viable strategy! Then suddenly something pops up to solve the problem or at least move the goalposts!

Chatting to the lad last night, apparently he'd be OK with a Ford Focus now. Damn right you would be you little shi-ite. Apparently the "only" thing he'd not want to be seen in is a Vauxhall.

I do miss World of Fleece occasionally. Only occasionally, mind!

I still go there WDB and indeed the uber-fleece place. It's fine if you don't allow yourself to be drawn into politics.

The Grandaddy fleece forum is not accessible through my work network any more, and we all know I don't spend any leisure time staring at internets so I'd never access it from my personal devices. The other one is just too confrontational in nature for me these days.

Anyway, a Focus wouldn't be wrong. Handy enough car for many purposes actually. Funnily enough, they were being discussed "elsewhere" this week. A guy had £2000 to spend and the direction of the advice was a a pre-2005 1.6 petrol manual Focus, a good example of which can evidently be bought for £1500 or so, and have a solid reputation it seems.

Four owners and it's had a new clutch with only 50,000. Been ragged that.

Your lad goes up in my estimation, Al. In 50+ years of owning cars I've never had a Vauxhall, although I've driven them from time to time to make sure it's not just blind prejudice.
I suspect he wouldn't be seen dead in a Nissan Micra either.
Is it a myth or are there still some cars that men would rather not be seen in?
Man driving Mini - his other half's and he sees it as a small BMW. Man driving Fiat 500 - his other half's and he hopes not to meet anyone he knows. Man driving MX-5 - his other half's and there'll be hell to pay when she finds he's left her the automatic Volvo. Man driving Honda Jazz - his mum has given up driving. Man driving Nissan Micra - his great-aunt has given up driving.

I don't think a man should be seen driving a small faux 4x4 personally.

I drove one last night. But it was dark. Was that ok?

My first company car was a Mk1 Cavalier, and it was quite good actually. I later had a Mk2 Sri which was ok, but had pretty flimsy trim. Then years later I had a Senator that went well. The Signum was disappointing though. Wouldn't rush to have another Vauxhall.
