TNE made a joke about someone messing up his joke basically. And it ended badly on both sides it seems for something that was not that important. Wish my car hadn't wished my a happy new year and I'd shared it now.

Two grown men doing a pretty good impression of a couple of petulant teenage girls mostly. I guess we have to assume that at least one of them has other issues to deal with at the moment. It's tough to see how such a trivial thing could have caused either reaction otherwise. Hey ho, good luck to them both, they'll be missed.

It's tough to see how such a trivial thing could have caused either reaction otherwise. Given that I've responded to you in PM about my reasons, I do think that's rather OTT, Humph . (there isn't a petulant schoolgirl smiley) As I said to you: I don't particularly like the feeling that I seem to have driven a poster away, albeit, from my end, innocently, but I'm removing any chance of that happening again. The population on here is sparse, and anything that defrays that is likely to have a negative effect on everyone here (and I admit, that me flouncing - (hardly!) bowing out rather exacerbates that), but hey, this is the second time my posts have been taken the wrong way by members, and ostensibly driving someone away, even inadvertently, is really not a nice "feel". I've no idea why BPG responded in that way (and I really do hope he's all right - I'd made a comment on strange posts not long previously), but a post I made in mild reprobation, and (almost) entirely in jest (the strikethrough is something I've used similarly in various circumstances, including reference to yourself) patently led to him "flouncing", and more than that, immediately deleting his account. My response is and was to that rather "nuclear" deletion (which had already happened when I posted my departure). To restate; whatever the reason, it doesn't feel good to have played a part in his departure; It's made me worry somewhat about him, and I don't particularly want my sense of humour mutation to have similar effects elsewhere. I have no hard feelings at all (it's age, you know) except to you , you bastard, "petulant teenage girl", indeed. That's a minimum of 66% wrong.

Please stay TNE :-) I don't think what you posted was bad. Your initial post was obviously a joke and to have that taken seriously, deconstructed, etc. I assume you touched a bit of a raw nerve and BPG might have other reasons.
I think there is more to BPG's departure and I wish I knew how he'd spelt it to use his name on here properly :-(
So don't leave you bastard.
Happy new year all again. Or happier 2021 at least.

Aye, it's hard to think how '21 could be worse, but I guess it could. It going to be important to be nice whenever possible I think. Let's be nice here. Except to bastards of course ...

2020 was so crap, so come on, we are allowed differences and whinges from time to time. Friends do get upset with each other and make up. I left and came back. Just be nice; try not to become keyboard warriors like so many other places...
You lot kept me sane in 2020, especially when I was stranded in Israel in March/April and in July waiting for Dad to die. I needed somewhere to talk when I wanted to talk and this place gave me the space to do so without judgement. So thank you. If anyone is thinking of leaving - think again. I will miss you.

TBH I thought posts up to and including BPG's at 4:56 01/01/21 added rather than detracted.

Crikey! I wonder if mine’s new enough to do that. Checked it today. It isn’t.

Didn't think it would because mine is BMW OS 7 with a 4G always on Internet connection. Yours probably doesn't let you use Spotify directly from the cars Internet connection either.
Think the term for the connectivity is Connected Professional - it is standard on all 330e but on other G20/21 3-series it is only available on M-Sport spec cars.

So dreadfully ungentlemanly those BMWs. A Mercedes would never be so presumptuous. They metaphorically touch their forelock and humbly ask "Where to Sir?" in a Jeeves like manner.... 😎

Anyway, here's a copy and paste of an email I received this afternoon from BPG. I have replied and wished him well. From my side, I have no further useful input other than to reaffirm that I would/will be disappointed if anyone chooses to leave "the pub" over such a minor matter. But, equally, I'll not chase after anyone if that is their preferred direction of travel. This forum is supposed to be a place to virtually relax, and if our style doesn't suit some, then fair enough, my apologies, but I'm still of the view that nothing bad happened and that reactions were disproportionate. Best wishes to all, life will challenge us all far more than this in the foreseeable future. Keep safe and well...
Hi ******, I am not happy about the direction the language is taking on the site. I’m as guilt as the next man and no prude for using ‘colourful’ language including my own review of the electric KIA Soul which I would reword if I could.
The use of strikeout to signify a joke I think not a good way to go, How long before the C bomb is dropped ? Would we all still be laughing as long as strikethrough is used ? Of course, it’s down to individual moderation and the light touch which is applied to the site which is one of the sites positive attributes and it’s a hard call when to step in without breaking that understanding or coming across as heavy handed.
As is frequently mentioned the number of contributors on the site is not huge, the direction the language is taking will either: Put people off or, Encourage the kind of people to post who I do not want to be associated with on a public forum.
Your site, your rules.
No bad feelings towards anyone and wish everyone the best for the future. I have decided for the above reasons to step away for now.
Feel free to share this or keep it to yourself.
Best regards, BPG

I have to say I am not a fan of the jokes using 'strikethrough' or someone saying 'let me correct that for you'. I'll miss BPG on here. And we do need to consider the tone and language a bit. Maybe BPG will come back and TNE - well I hope so.
As for my BMW's sat nav.... it's got a few responses for 'navigate to home address'. It might even be considered a little sarcastic at times. I'll have to make note of the responses.

Is there an opening here for personal sarcastic nav personas? Nigella Lawson: Home, please Nav: Your actual home, or that set in a hangar outside Stevenage you tell us is your real kitchen?
