I'd be surprised if a HUD isn't available as standard or on the options list rather than an afterthought stick on display. Right where you need it displayed on the windscreen rather than a plastic pop-up screen please.
You can thank Tesla for the portrait screen in the middle.
Edit: 3.6 seconds to 62mph, who is going to pay Lamborghini insurance premium price for a small Volvo ? Given insurance seems to be leaping in price in the UK I think the extended range single motor will be the seller. The performance model may leave the Lamborghini at the lights however by the bottom of the slip road onto the autobahn, with a top speed of 112mph, it'll be a dot in the rear view mirror of my 13 year old 2.0 diesel.
I think with a hot hatch rivalling mid-5s 0-62 even the standard car might be a bit expensive for some, if they can get insurance.

Size wise the EX30 is exactly the car we should be looking at to replace the KIA eSoul I just don't get who Volvo are aiming it at with 400+ bhp. It's not a sports car, it's an SUV/cross ovary (let's face it, it's usually women of a certain age who drive this kind of thing) car, I'll wait for something closer to 200bhp with long range battery.

I love the wheel at rear corner look. If there is a decent HUD like I have on my I5 I would not be bothered by the centre screen. The important factor is a reasonable level of immediate control for wipers, lights, mirrors, climate with further details in a menu.

I agree with wipers, everything else is set and forget especially in a Volvo.
They really do have an excellent HVAC system, set the temperature and let the car do the rest it really is that easy. Lights are all auto these days anyway even my humble Ford knows when to put the lights on, switch to main beam and dip without any input from me.

That's true. The Polestar 2 I drove two weeks ago was pretty good in respect of controls. I would have liked a couple of hours with the handbook, but you never get than with a rental car.

The delivery times appear to be 10-11 months. I think they must be driving them here from China.

Volvo does occasionally do the unfathomably quirky like tucking the electric emergency brake switch away out of reach. On the plus side the Ultra model comes with 22kW onboard charger. The EX30 has a 64kWh usable battery like the KIA eSoul. It takes roughly 4.5 his to charge our car from ca.20% to 90% with 11kW. 2-2.25 hours would be handy for a quick top up at home.

Aren’t the wipers on the left column stalk, à la Mercedes? My recollection of the Polestar 2 is that most minor functions had easy voice controls. I’d just like a speed readout in front of me. We had decades of cars with instruments scattered all over (turbo boost gauge by the gear lever, anyone?) and generally got decent ergonomics together in the 1990s. EV displays aren’t expensive and don’t need a mechanical connection to anything, so why not put one where it’s most useful? Hmm. I had read elsewhere that they were controlled in a touchscreen menu. Not sure now. Will keep an eye out for info. Not that I can afford one, of course, so it's academic to me at the moment.

Like this. I imagine twisting the end takes it through the various automatic and continuous settings, Mercedes-style. Whether it also has the Mercedes-overburdened-stalk hazard of giving three flashes of an indicator when you just want to wash the screen remains to be seen.
