Trying to find somewhere interesting to go that is not cold over the Christmas break... (and not South Africa). Maybe I will have to wait for our Summer and go to Canada and northern USA which I have been to and would like to take Espadrille. If you don't go this year I'd probably avoid 2025, the place will be a building site for the 2026 MUSCA (or MEXCANUSA if you prefer) soccer World Cup.

You can skip Australia Esp, there really isn’t a lot to see there.
But NZ is less than 3 hours flight from Fiji… 😁. Nice & hot over Xmas/Jan too!

Load of family issues right now talking up a lot of Mrs H’s time. She’s at the end of herself tbh. Short window of opportunity from this Thursday through to Monday. Thinking of booking a short break. She’d like sun and a beach. Don’t want long flights for a short trip. Thinking Mallorca maybe. Went there a few years ago to a place called Puerto Pollensa. It was ok. Any recommendations for other places not too far but likely to be warm and relatively low chav factors?

I'd still aim south of the Alps to be guaranteed sun at this time of year. Just looked at the weather forecast and, while we've at mid to high 20's for the last few days, it's forecast for rain and thunderstorms over the weekend. Nice or Barcelona ? Lots of other things to do if you get bored of sand and sun.
Edit: Don't know if you are aware, this weekend is Pentecost with Monday (20th) being a bank holiday. Thursday 30th is also Corpus Christi making that a long weekend with a bridging day.

On the mainland I'd got for Mellieha or Golden Bay if you want peace and quiet. I've got the Radisson Blu Resort at Golden Bay earmarked for the future. Gozo is quieter still though, but I don't know it very well.
St Julians is the rumpty-pumpty resort for restaurants and nightlife, St Paul's Bay/Qawra is a bit more sedate.

Sardinia would be good too. Very cheap flights usually, and there are lots of lovely beaches. Will be very quiet this time of year.

Loads of choice from MAN or LPL for you Humph. Have a look for something last minute on their websites. I would want as short a flight as possible given the duration of the trip. Balearics are an obvious option and Mallorca has some posh bits so you can avoid the chavs. Barca is a lovely city with a good beach. Nice's beach is stony. Malta is possibly a bit far for the length of trip. How about Pisa - lovely beach?

Round about this time last year we were in Viareggio, a seaside resort in Tuscany. Easy and cheap to get to through Pisa airport and the usual budget airlines. Beach was lovely and weather was decent. You can even get a Lynk & Co PHEV Crossover from Hertz at Pisa airport.

I lived in Florence in the early 80s. I had a “friend” in Pisa. Don’t suppose I’d recognise her now though. Or her me for that matter!

Everything I’m checking seems jolly expensive. Well, anywhere that I’d want to go. Maybe I’m out of touch.
