Bike bore thread alert.
Anyway, most mountain bikers strip their bikes of anything that could poke into them or smash in the not unusual event of an unplanned and rapid dismount.
Reflectors, bells, lights etc are usually removed, both to protect the rider but also so as not to leave anything sharp on the trails in the event of them being broken.
So, given that our bikes are more likely to be used on road or at least on shared use paths for the next few weeks, I've spent an hour or two restoring them to road legal.
Told you it wasn't very interesting.
But we have to find something to talk about eh?

Come on man, surely you need to be installing some slicks as well?

Not a bad shout. That'll fill an hour or two as well.

Some "lolly" sticks in the spokes to make sure all those pensioners out walking hear you coming too.

Funnily, my un-towny bike, the blue one with the SRAM transmission, has quite a loud, clicky freewheel, which the few pedestrians I passed close to in town yesterday seemed to notice behind them.
The brown one, the one I bought partly to ride in town, has Shimano components down there, and freewheels in near-silence. I might even need to keep that bell that came with it.

Not so sure Rob. You wouldn't believe ( well maybe you would ) the hatred cyclists are subject to even when we are riding with the utmost care for the safety of others.
Even a gentle "ting" of a bell when you're coming slowly up behind pedestrians who can't seem to figure out that they are walking on the cycle lane half of a shared path can elicit unreasonable levels of vitriol.
Honking a horn like the ones in your link would quite possibly cause an all out bout of apoplexy !

Not really a problem at the moment. There are big gaps to steer through — and no actual cycle paths round me for wombling pedestrians to obstruct.

This is quite an interesting article. But, it's particularly cool for me. The headline photo was taken in Princes Street in Edinburgh in the early '70s. Two things that fascinate me. The bus stop that double decker is pulling away from is the one I used to get the bus home from school, but it gets weirder...there's a young lad on a bike just above where it says "PA Media"...I had a jacket just like that, and would have been about that age...can't swear it's me, but it easily could be. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-52461913

Isn't that one of those coupé Hillman Imps with a Singer badge about to run you down? What were those called now? Wasn't a Chamois, my Mum had one of those and it wasn't the coupé shape, it was just a posh Imp. Scottish built, no?
