He's on his way out again... found to have left isolation the day after he tested positive... Idiot He really seems to be somewhat of a dick from somewhat of a dickish family. There seem to be never ending incidents of him breaking the rules or petty lying in one way or another. Australia has properly buggered up their handling of this, but I'd really like the smugness to be wiped from his face.

That’s a tough enough thing to deal with for a parent on the spot. Is she improving now? Well, she was. The virus continues, though less, but she is now on antibiotics having now developed an ear infection and tonsillitis. The poor child is having a really rough time of it, though discussions about lifestyle and self-care will occur at some point in the future.

Sue Gray has completed her investigation and confirms Boris has no case to answer. I've never met the woman but she looks very familiar.

I bet she was at some of these parties.... and will soon after excuse herself from the investigation and production of the report.

Covid: Chile starts fourth vaccine dose amid rise in cases www.bbc.com/news/world-latin-america-59944173Pretty sure that'll be a 5th dose by about June/July. I don't know, but one can only assume that Sinovac, which most of the country received for their first 2 doses, wears off rather more quickly than the others.

I am disappointed, as Boris is clearly a person who gets things done and gets the things done that people want doing. There are few politicians who can do that. Life would have been an awful lot better if Boris had come down on the side of Remain. I reckon he would now be seen as a Statesman, forcing through changes in the way the EU operate to everyone's benefit. But we are where we are and it is time for either Rishi or Truss. Apart from a deeply unsatisfactory Brexit agreement and arguably not cocking up vaccination what has he achieved. The Northern Ireland protocol, which may yet reignite political violence in Ulster is his baby; the bones of it emerged when he met the Taoseach in late 19. Is there ANYTHING else either in government or as the Mayor that counts as getting things done? The Garden Bridge was a disaster as were his busses. The Arcuri affair may yet bite him. And of course there's Nazanin Ratcliffe who's extended incarceration is the direct consequence of his uncontrolled thoughtless rhetoric.

The Iranians will keep her there for ever, even if we pay over the £400 Million they claim we owe them and even if we vow to bomb Israel. There is not a single trustworthy person in the Iranian regime. They are looking out for their own domination and always looking over their shoulder. Weakness means they will be killed.
There is only one way to deal with them and that is to show them who's boss. There is no sound reason for an Iranian with dual citizenship (similar with China) to go there. You can guarantee you will be arrested on a trumpted up charge unless you are a mad Mullah - and all Mullahs are mad.

None of that answers Bromp’s question, Esp. Or mine. What are Johnson’s achievements in office — any office?
The full disaster of his Brexit will only become apparent as Covid fades from emergency to endemic and people discover that the things they once took for granted are no longer possible. The once-United Kingdom is looking dangerously fragile. The vaccination programme worked because British science and the NHS have not yet completely withered despite a decade of neglect and underfunding — in other words, despite Johnson, not because of him.
The UK used to be a major player at the tables where big decisions were made; now we’re an embarrassing minnow, begging for favours from Australia and the nasty, sectarian government of India. Obama pointed out in 2016 that this was a bad idea. Johnson did it anyway and the mess is his to own — not that owning messes is something he’s ever done.

>> in other words, despite Johnson, not because of him
I don't think so. In much the same way that he did little to help the process, he equally did little to hinder it.
As for the NHS and underspending, I am not sure that there is underspending. There is most certainly mis-spending, but under? It's difficult to know. Either way, just about every Government in the last 50 years has mishandled that organisation.
The major player / embarrassing minnow?? I'm not embarrassed, Not at all. British and proud of it. That it's position in the world has changed, both in style and strength is true, but Johnson had f.all to do with that. I'd be impressed if he was capable of that level of impact, even in a bad way. But he doesn't.
As for Brexit; I can think of no way that deal could have been done well. Fundamentally impossible. Not that he has done anything good at all, and no doubt could have done better, but the disaster was that Brexit existed at all, not how it was done.
tl:dr Johnson is awful and has achieved somewhere between little and nothing. But most of the blame isn't his either.

Novak Djokovic 'extremely disappointed'www.bbc.com/sport/tennis/60014739Extremely disappointed? Oh the poor soul. Nonetheless I have come up with a foolproof plan for him that will avoid this happening again. Get jabbed and stop breaking the rules. Mind you, the whole process was a cock up on all sides from start to finish.

My initial support for him waned when it became clear that has wasn’t entirely truthful on his visa application...
Somewhat disappointed that the Federal Court didn’t really even entertain his plea yesterday, and seemed happy just to reaffirm that the Immigration Minister has absolute power to just decide as he sees fit?

I think the ability to deport someone like this was introduced by the then immigration minister (now prime minister) in 2014 and it is an absolute power. I think he could have said he was deporting him because he wanted Nadal to win. All they could appeal on was how this power was used and they didn't even try to do that really. I don't think there were grounds for appeal.
But he only got in initially because the border staff revoked his visa without fully following procedure. Otherwise he'd have lost that appeal and been thrown out earlier - he didn't have a medical exemption for not having the vaccine.
When it became apparent he'd not stayed isolated even when he knew he had Covid and then lied about travelling before arriving he was on dodgey ground. In theory he's in trouble in Serbia for breaking their strict isolation rules.

Anyone who used to prospect of an Australian stype immigration system as a justification for voting for Brexit must be absolutely delighted with these powers and this decision.

Ah, but the latest set of mortifeline idiot-pleasers will have the Royal Navy torpedoing refugee boats in the Channel and the Marines machinegunning the survivors. Where’s the fun in Taking Back Control if we don’t exercise it?
