Hi.....ive recently owned a 2013 Mazda 3 Tamura 1.6 auto. Loved it until someone drove into me and has written it off.
I am doing 100 miles plus per day. I know it wasn't the most economical of cars which was the only gripe with the Mazda I had.
I love the look of the Civic. Budget just about stretches to a 2013, but again doesn't seem that economical for my miles as the older auto models only come in a 1.8 from what i can see.
Any recommendations for an economical automatic with the safety and reliability of those mentioned?
Budget is £5,500 - 6,500
Thank you

Welcome to the board. Now what I would do (and have done in the past) when faced with an issue like this, is to use Autotrader. So for you I searched any make, Auto, 2014 - 2016, 50k miles max, and two hundred odd cars popped up. The first one to hit my eye was www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201912115247602, but I barely scraped the surface of the choice.

100 miles a day makes it worth looking at diesels. No DPF or regen issues on that sort of mileage.

Yep, I think you probably need to be looking at diesels, and, with your 100 miles-a-day requirements, in your shoes I'd be looking for a Ford Focus.
You are going to have trouble finding a diesel automatic from a Japanese make. Perhaps you could consider a hybrid, like the Toyota Auris?
I've got a Civic 1.8 petrol auto, and you're right, it isn't particularly economical. But I'm only doing 5000 miles a year in it so I don't care about that really.
Welcome to the forum!

Yes, welcome.
For £6000 and a lot of miles, I’d be keeping it simple. Small(ish), diesel and automatic is a tricky combination; I’d be inclined to pick any two of those three. And ‘self-charging’ (cough) hybrids lose any advantage they start with over longer distances.
And for 100 miles a day, I’d be looking hard at the seats. Which makes me think Volvo and wonder whether there’s a V40 or even an S60 out there for you. I’ll have a look at Hof’s Autotrader selection and see if anything jumps out.
[Later] Eek, an Astra! And if that’s from a private seller, why’s there a brown tag on the key?

Welcome dazzabee !
Just to ask, are you in the UK? I know it might be a silly question, but I guess it's relevant to any answers/advice we might give !

Some nice cars there Al. Only worries would be the Powershift boxes in the Fords and the DSG in the VW.
Having said that, we've had a couple of Powershift equipped Mondeos on the company fleet that did circa 200,000 each without problems. A DSG Golf and a DSG Passat we ran both had dodgy gearboxes. The Golf's one failed at 16,000 miles, while in fairness to it, the Passat developed its problems at around 120,000.

Just check service records are complete, and they should be fine.
Hope you noticed that the Mondeo is listed as "brown".

Thanks for all the replies so far ... lots of food for thoughts.
I am in the UK to confirm.
I am starting to think that £6k is limiting me somewhat. Whilst I would have to beg and steal to up my budget, I were to stretch it by £1-2k to £7-8,000 what cars would you recommend?
Many thanks

Same models, but slightly newer. Don't think it makes much difference other than that.
