...no really, it would be a shame actually. Being discussed on the other channel but for those here who don't go there...
This taken from the footnotes on the HJ site...
"The affairs, assets and business of the Company are being managed by Miles Needham and Simon Carvill-Biggs who were appointed Joint Administrators on 7 January 2020. The Joint Administrators act as agents of the Company and without personal liability."

Shouldn't have killed the forum, maybe.
Hey ho.
It is a good resource, but others exist.

The 'new' forum software they implemented was terrible. And the management brought in (who later became directors) had ideas that differed from the moderators. But we were unpaid volunteers so left.
The grown up bit of the Hj site was a very useful resource and it took a lot of employees to make it like that and update. I think there were over 20 working for HJ. I wonder if his new venture he registered in November will pick up any of the failed business.... and should that be allowed? Whether he knew it was going to happen though.... his new venture was renamed from being ran HonestJohn company to something else 3 days after HJ.co.uk went into administration.
It's a shame if it folds but how can it continue without HJ involved? I know it's a character name for him and all that.

I am surprised but I think HJ himself has been conspicuous by his absence which affects traffic maybe. His video'ed car tests were very nicely presented and less frantic that the tattooed Georgie, despite his clear knowledge and sensible summaries. When he used to drop by the Back Room it made it feel personal which doesn't happen now and I miss his auction result commentaries.
Somehow, niche traders gain this great reputation which is geared up by VCs who manage to ruin the very thing that made it successful. Did this happen here I wonder?

I'll repeat on here what I posted as moderator on HJ (apologies, I realise you guys all know what an administrator is!)
Sorry - I have been away all day yesterday and this morning, and I haven't been told any more than you have.
The object of an administration is to get a company back on its feet again when it has run into financial difficulties (which I haven't been informed about either, although I do know that advertising revenue is the main source of income). Either a company under administrators (who are chartered accountants) is restructured or (more likely) a buyer of the whole or part of the business is sought.
While the process is going on, a company continues to trade (unlike with a liquidation). So business as usual for the moment.
I have asked HJ for a comment.

Some very interesting comments from Mark in Car4Play about the history of the HJ site. It is amazing how those of us who were in pretty much from the start were not aware of the bare bones behind the scenes and how forward thinking HJ was about making money from the website. The forum drove visitor numbers but I think now too many people go straight to the Back Room and don't read much of the rest of the site. I read the Our Cars bit (I fancy a Citroen C5 Aircross) but not much else.

You had me at C5. And lost me at Aircross.

I know you don't like sitty up cars, but I like the space the boot gives you compared to the regular C5. I don't mind sitty up cars at all, especially as getting in and out is so much easier. Unless one is driving like a lunatic I'm not sure there is much difference in the day to day roadholding and handling characteristics.

Compared to the C5 saloon or estate?
Aircross boot space seats up: 580L, seats down 1680L C5 estate boot space seats up: 563L, seats down 1658L.
Barely any difference. Space in SUVs is mostly illusory.

Didn't realise there was an estate. Thought it had been canned. Hmmmm....
Must admit though the interiors of the Peugeots nowadays look absolutely great. Far better than the rubbish churned out by BMW and possible even Mercedes and Audi. Rivalling Porsche in terms of immediacy of showroom appeal.
