I'm spending the break with Espadrille at home but child free, so we are continuing the sorting out of the house post move in. Dad left a load of stuff behind and we know that some is useful, some duplicated and some junk. So charity shop and tip are being visited. Otherwise it will be a relaxing few days apart the drive down to London on Saturday evening to visit the M-in-L overnight.
A friend of mine buried his mother-in-law two weeks ago. It was his birthday and she couldn't have given him a better present!
Merry Christmas to you all.

We've got a bit of a free kick tomorrow, all decending on "her" sisters for the day. Just about tolerable, as I shall decide to "nip" home to take the dog out ( for quite a while ). Same motley crew plus some others at ours on Boxing Day. I shall let alcohol anaesthetise that. Should fit in an early Boxing Day ride up a hill too with luck.

Cold weather can do that to the older gentleman, Humph. But don’t worry, discreet solutions are available.

Just got back from a few days in Barcelona. Hope you've all had a good few days.

I've a sore back from three days of going through the contents of two houses and trying to merge them into one. So cue several car loads to the tip and charity shop on Thursday and Friday (before the flight sim).
But it's been fun and I've found some really top notch hi-fi equipment unused for a while which is now belting out Beethoven from cassette, CD and vinyl.
And books, so many books I don't need to go to the library for years.
But it's been fun, not that I want to do it again...

HNY from the Antipodes!
28 degrees, cloudless blue sky, sitting on my terrace and watching the boats sail by. Total hose pipe and sprinkler ban, can’t wash the car or refill the jacuzzi... Good job I am good at sitting around doing nothing 😎

...I've found some really top notch hi-fi equipment unused for a while which is now belting out Beethoven from cassette, CD and vinyl. This should be a busy year for Beethoven. He even got a mention in the Vienna new year concert, which is a rarity. Go on, what kit did you find? (Suffering hifi withdrawal this week as my amp is away for a refurb that’s costing more than I bought it for in 2007, so hearing about someone else’s will have to do.)

For decent kit, it's always worth checking out S/H demand and prices. I recently mentioned that my speakers on my second system (which gets used rather more than the prime system, given occupancy patterns of the lounge ) are Rogers LS3/5A (BBC-designed Monitors). Bought new about 40 years ago for around £200, I still have the box, the hand-signed test and "matching" certificate; the speakers are in near-perfect condition, and have matching /A /B serial numbers. Current asking price for very tatty, non-matched, less-desirable spec later ones is heading North of £2000. Listed on eBay they would attract a minimum of £3000, and I wouldn't be surprised (given you won't get a better pair) if a bidding war would take them considerably higher than that. My walking colleague is a real HiFi buff, and has wanted to test them against his very expensive kit (including his valve amplifier) for some time, so we had a go a few months ago. He has a big room, with big speakers - the LS3/5As are tiny in comparison. I was still lucky to escape with them. (A slight lack of bass, but very "room-filling", and he reckoned if he got a set of matching AB1 subwoofers he could very much live with them - for me, such an approach loses the advantage of getting an "almost exactly there" sound out of a very-small pair of unobtrusive speakers).

Here we go...
System 1. In the boys' bedroom (they share a room that is about 18ft by 18ft) although only son #2 in into his HiFi via his grandfather. They have a
Cambridge AudioLab 6000A Amplifier Rega Planar P3 deck with a Low DW-20X cartridge Dali Royal Menuet speakers
System 2 is in a semi-underground room used for book, record and CD storage. It has
Sugden Optima 140 Amplifier Project Debut deck with Ortofon OMB-5E cartridge Marantz CD6002 Splendor LS3/5A speakers.
Both sound very good
No idea about value/price although the Low cartridge is £750 new!
