The electric shower in one of our bathrooms is cream crackered. Tried all yesterday to get a "man" but they all seem to be booked out until Easter.
So, I've reserved one at B&Q to pick up later today, same model so the fittings should be easy.
Going to to go well this isn't it?
😬

Can't see what the issue is. Playing with water and electric a few days before Christmas and plan B booked out until Easter if something does go awry. Go for it, character building with your wife micro managing over your shoulder.

....what's the queuing time like at the local A&E?
TBH, whilst I do plumbing, I don't enjoy it. Too much stress when you can't stop it leaking, even after nipping up tighter than a tight thing.

Right well, I've got all the kit, going in.
Half hour job right?
😳

...unless the unit has had a mid-life revision/reconfiguration; ....unless the olives have been overtightened; .....unless you can't get the water turned off; ......unless - well, you can add your own.... Do plumbers and electricians work Sundays round your way? (You can update us on progress tomorrow )

Plan B is...emergency plumber or sparks on the house insurance policy. Unless there's an exclusion clause for self inflicted damage.

....better not tell any electricians you've done it, or they'll no doubt tell you it was "notifiable" under building regulations (being within a certain distance of a shower - well.... obviously). The regs are (IMO deliberately) kept somewhat obtuse largely to keep electricians (who can self-certify) in work. I've had sparkys quote all sorts of crap at me, particularly in relation to stuff that became notifiable, and then was reversed about 5 years ago, and in relation to both bathroom and kitchen work (the latter went fully-notifiable, and then fully non-notifiable). FWIW, as a straight replacement, rather than something entirely new (and particularly like-for-like) I don't believe it is notifiable, but if you don't tell anyone (oh, you have ) no-one will ever know.

Did you use a shoe as a hammer ? No, but I did make the mistake of tackling the job while wearing a rather good and favourite pair of pale beige, Northampton made, buckskin desert boots. They did not particularly survive the event without some fairly tragic water damage. An unexpected side effect of the successful completion of what was after all, though I say it myself, a delicate feat of dexterity akin to microsurgery, is that my wife now, if only temporarily, thinks I'm marvellous. 😉 This, in and of itself, could prove to be a double edged sword of course. Short term gain in status and possible benefits, followed by plans various to utilise these now proven technical skills to greater effect on other household projects. Apparently, it would now be nice to have garden lighting and "you have got a few days off dear..." 😰

Aye, the cat is out of the bag now and will be a nightmare to put back in.
Only one thing for it, bike ride tomorrow and an 'off' which results in some time for recuperation or, a surprise short break somewhere.

...It'll be fine after she gets electrocuted in the shower tomorrow morning......
(And tell her electrical work in the garden is notifiable, so needs a professional - it isn't, but it was until reasonably recently ;-) ).

When we had a shower replaced previously I told the 'handyman/electrician' we used that don't forget to turn it to cold when you turn it on because there'll be no water in it and so it will trip out.... Guess what he didn't do. Part replaced under warranty (lucky us).
