I think I'd probably go for a lesser BIK LEC than the Merc..... I think I'd certainly be looking - though choice is quite restricted. Something from the KIA or Hyundai stable might be worth a pop, partially on the basis of the long-term warranty given your mileage. I think the Kia Optima Sportswagon is on run-out at the moment. Not the most highly rated, but fine, good price, large, well equipped. The diesel is DCT though; the petrol might be more appealing (I think it's a slush box), more power, and the higher emissions will be offset somewhat by the lack of diesel BIK premium. I suspect the Ceed Sportswagon/I30 Tourer might be a bit small, though the boot is large and of good shape. (DCT as well) Frankly, if you don't fill the car to the gunwales all the time, and can manage with a slightly smaller boot than now, augmented by a roof box as and when, I think I'd be looking at a petrol Focus Estate (Slush-box), and considering waiting for the imminent mild hybrid to limit the BIK.

I think, it's stick with an E, or chance a Superb or a 508SW to save a bit.
Or, a Navara, to save a lot.
Four thousand eight hundred earth pounds...
A year.
How bad could it be?

My accountant keeps telling me that the BIK for pick-ups is no different to any normal car because if they have four doors and for or five seats. So not sure why I see so many Ford Rangers around with very car like interiors.

As I've often said on HJ, finance, although a vital consideration, isn't the only one. For your use and mileage, it surely needs to be big, new, comfortable and above all enjoyable to drive. Try a Superb estate and a 508 SW; but if neither gives you the feeling of well-being that you get from the Merc, then bite the bullet and go for another Merc.

You may well be right Avant !
In fact, you almost certainly are right.
But, four thousand eight hundred pounds !
Sheesh !

I suppose, if I were to take your ( very good ) advice Avant, ( in your capacity as our very own in house FD and wise elder statesman ) 😉, then, if there are bullets to be bitten, it throws the net out to include V90s, A6 Avants, 5 series tourings, and maybe some others as yet not thought of.
Hmmm, 5 series touring...or V90
Time to ponder.
