Here's a thing, by the end of the first ten years of my working life, my salary was 15X that of my starting rate. Now even allowing for promotions etc, I doubt the current generation will see such exponential increases. The '80s were undoubtedly crap for many, but I dropped lucky and was some years getting my pay doubled over the previous one. No wonder I was so happy then ! 🤔

Gosh I have never experienced anything like that. But working in a profession you would not expect it to. In sales its the sign of being successful. I was never a salesman but have had to learn to sell myself and my firm in recent years. It's not easy.

Well, it wasn't all about sales success or otherwise Esp, sales was a very small part of my activities back then, I started that decade as a management trainee at one company and finished it as a marketing director at another, having been lucky enough to be headhunted twice during that ten year spell. There was a lot of money sloshing around in the fashion business back then.
But, in fairness, and to add balance, the past 30 years have been rather more challenging !

So glad you've gone for another Leaf, Al: mention of Shed Seven might have suggested that you were looking for an old 730d - which would have generated as many column inches on here as did the Mercedes.

It was the song title (and lyrical content) rather than the band which I was hinting at, following EIII's comment.
Never owned a BMW. Never owned a Vauxhall. This Leaf is my 37th car.

Can’t imagine there’ll be much money sloshing round in any industry in the coming years...?
Lawyers and accountants will probably do well though, as ever.

I think you'll have to break the news about coupe's not having hatchbacks very gently to things like the Ford Capri and Toyota Celica. First port of call for style is always America or Japan. FIAT replaced their 128 Coupe in 1975 or 76 giving it a hatchback body. What did they call it ? 3P Berlinetta. In the name they told you the number of doors and used Berlinetta to let you know it was like a Coupe but not a Coupe.

"The bodywork is crazed"
Hmm, that'll be all the rust underneath the paint making a bid for freedom then?
I went to test drive one of those when they were current. Couldn't fit in it. Big thighs y'see. ( Ooh Matron )

Narrower than a Westfield do you think? Not sure if you've ever driven one of those?

It was the clearance between the bottom of the steering wheel and where my legs needed to be that was the issue in the X/19. The Westie had a steering wheel that was about as big as a side plate. Momo, don't y'know... 😎
