I’m not sure I know what a trunnion is. I’m a bit scared to google it. Don’t worry, Humph. I think it’s just a kind of bracket. Streaming occasional episodes of things like Between the Lines reminds me how much things have changed since the early 1990s, when the roads were pretty much defined by various sizes of Ford, BMWs were strictly for wideboys (and people still referred to ‘wideboys’) and there was hardly a Mercedes or a 4x4, still less a crossover, to be seen. There’s a quaint Ford dealership in Marlow that would make a credible location for Dad’s Army but I don’t think I’ve ever been inside. Not sure where else I could go to buy a Ford round here. Is the other quaint one in Eton still going I wonder? I don't ever venture that far down the High Street these days, nothing of interest there once the pubs and curry houses have ended. There was also a quaint one in Witney last time I passed. There's a big new Ford dealer here in the town you hate, Dubya. It has taken over the Infiniti unit, between the KIA and Honda dealers.

Fairly uninterestingly I suppose, I saw an example of what must have been one of the last ever Mondeo estates yesterday. Have to say it was a good looking thing in dark grey. Not sure what model/trim it was but it looked nice. I’d still happily have one. Useful things and good to drive.

I had one of the jelly mould Granadas. Dark grey 2.9 Ghia 4x4 manual hatch. I agree about its appearance being somewhat challenging, but it was a nice thing to drive, if a bit (a lot) thirsty. I love those jelly mould Grandads. It's the later Scorpio incarnation where it went wrong. Frog faced things weren’t they? Again I know someone who had one (not me) and he said it was nice to drive but he didn’t like looking at it.

Far nicer in every single way, and more practical than any wretched SUV they'll now be peddling in its place. Idiots are everywhere.

I think, might be wrong of course, but I’m fairly sure they even put a proper TC auto box in the last ones.

They did. They are fine automobiles. But folks want sitty-uppy so that they may look down upon the less prestigious in the school car park and imagine themselves to be towing a horse box to the Polo later before tea with the King, so sitty-uppy we shall be sold, and to hell with efficiency.
All about the #premium feels, innit.

Ach well, I don’t really care anymore, I’m most probably just going to keep my old Merc until it’s totally ausgeklappened. Or I am, whichever comes first.

Yeah, you're probably right. I expect most of us on here aren't too far away from that "buying a last car to see me out" moment.

I have though, instructed my son to do the decent thing and euthanise me if I start taking any interest in Honda Jazzs. 😉

I'm more looking forward to the cheap/free public transport, truth be told.
I do wish my Mum would avail herself of it. She could easily use the train to travel Carmarthen-Reading, but she won't, she keeps insisting on driving. Resulting in the accident they had on the M4 in October. But no, trains are dirty and for common people, apparently. I think she still lives in 1974 sometimes.

Trouble with that though is that the public use it too. 😧

Ah, I see you got in before my edit. That's my Mum's argument.
Indeed they do, but I'm a public so they don't bother me overly. Shall be public transporting to Edinburgh and back shortly. Can't imagine driving it for a two night stay including a rugby match and a few beers. Sod that. My 20-something self are disappoint.

Missed your edit, but she does have a valid point about some of them! 😉
