Enjoy yourself, it's later than you think. Is that your mantra for this weekend, Al ?

Apparently, it is well dodgy trying to ride a bicycle in Edinburgh now with all the tram lines in the city centre. Just in case you were thinking of doing that!

Another one from my once upon time wanted list, the GTE. they weren't as quick as the Astra GTE but still wanted. Be careful in Embra, I went twenty-one years ago this month for the Calcutta cup, young(er), free and single. Met my trouble, and the rest as they say...

He’ll be ok, especially if he’s got “that” coat on! 😉

Is she likely to be hanging around there this weekend too?

I'm already loaded with trouble - 25 years of it this year. I suppose I ought to buy her something silver.

…and if so, does she have a thing about blokes in leather cowboy hats? 😬
Edit in reply to the tall geezer

Regatta lightweight-but-very-warm, black, hooded hiking jacket, plus dark blue M&S beanie, I don't go to town in the wax jacket, and the Aussie sheep botherer's hat only comes out when it's raining and the dug needs oot. You'll be hard pushed to spot me in the crowd on the telly.
I don't think I stand any chance of too much attention from the ladies.
Right, I'm off to Stansted. Dinner at Wetherspoons awaits, no doubt surrounded by the great poets and philosophers of our age.

Stansted?
That’s a long way to go in the wrong direction before you start?

I'll take the white one please Al, didn't really like the hatchback version even in the dark metallic blue they did.
119mph was quick back in the day with 120horses. The world was our lobster, fast Ford, Vauxhall, Peugeot, Citroën, Renault, FIAT, Lancia, Alfa, VW even Volvo had the 480 turbo. Choices today can be written on the back of a postage stamp with a 5" paint brush in creosote. 😭

A 220i would cover most of those bases, wouldn’t it?

Think it would fail the affordable test and it's, well you know, got that badge and connotations that go with it.
Edit: just took a look, a 220i has 178hp, only 22 more than an Astra 16v had 35 years ago. Extremely affordable though chasing Focus buyers at £34k and substantially down on power vs a Focus ST.
Edit: The choice of a BMW or a Focus doesn't really compare with the choice we had as young drivers. At least the BMW can be had in silver or black, judging by what can be seen on the roads, which shows how far we've come from uncle Henry's choice of black or black.

Stansted? That’s a long way to go in the wrong direction before you start? It is. 2 hours to get there by train, but Crossrail makes it less hassle than it used to be, I can even get direct to Liverpool Street from Reading nowadays. But when the flight is £20 as opposed to the train being £180, even when you add another score for the train from here to Stansted it still wins, and will overall be a slightly faster journey to destination. Which is perverse, the train should always be cheaper.
