A former member of staff who left under a cloud has left behind his company Moto G5 phone which we cannot access. It appears locked to a Gmail account even though it has been reset. I have googled trying to bypass this without success. Any suggestions for a person who is not very techy?

...are you trying to get at the data on the 'phone, or are you simply wanting to recover it as a 'phone for someone else? If the former, then without some serious work you're going to need the password. If the latter, then a factory reset should suffice - you can do that through the "settings", which of course you can't get to without the password, but I'm pretty sure that booting the 'phone in recovery mode will allow you to do it. Arrangements vary by phone and version of Android, but it should be fairly similar to the described in the Android (not iPhone) section on this link. www.mobiles.co.uk/blog/how-to-factory-reset-your-phone/(I've used recovery mode for various things, and I'm pretty sure the wipe data/factory reset doesn't need a password). Note, after this process the 'phone will need a full set up with a Google a/c just like an out-of-the-box new one.

If it is a FACTORY RESET you want you can do that as TnE says. But it sounds like you reset it anyway (or they did). So can you get into the phone itself or is it locked?

I only want to use the phone as if it is 'out of the box'. Not interested in the data.
I have gone into the Android recovery bit, but when I click on it, it shows an 'ill android' and the words 'no command'. Am I doing something wrong? (Or rather what else should I be doing?)...

From Google: From the "No Command" screen (Android figure lying on his back), press and hold the Power button then press and release the Volume Up button to display the menu options. Note: Use the Volume buttons to highlight and the Power button to select. Note: Allow several seconds for the factory data reset process to complete.

I'll have a go...
Tried it - didn't work. The No Command screen stays. Ah well. At least I can buy a new one for a few quid rather than hundreds for a iPhone.

Take it to "Dodgy Dave's" mobile phone repair shop. There's bound to be one in Bury.

I took my old iPhone 6 to one of those places when it needed a new battery. £25 and a ten minute wait, sorted.
