Anybody seen, driven, or just read-up on the newly-launched new Ford Focus? The odd early review I have seen gives it the thumbs up.
Performance on paper of the 1.5 turbo 3-cylinder looks good, or should we be wary following the 1.0 Ecoboost and its inherent fragility?!
Proper torque converter automatic too, no more Powershift.
On paper, as a pre-reg, ex-demo, or even a 1 year old ex-rental it looks to tick a lot of my boxes next time round. That, or the ubiquitous new Corolla 2.0 petrol which will be flooding the market as Toyota approved “Signature Class” ex-rentals in 2019...

I like the look of it, but then I have always had a soft spot for Fords. Had many a good one and no bad ones.

Are these new Focii prevalent in the UK yet? It’s just been launched here in NZ. Still thinking that the tried & trusted 2.0 4-cylinder in the new Corolla might be a safer bet than Ford’s new 1.5 triple...

There was a full Autocar road test a few weeks ago. I seem to remember that they gave it 4.5 stars and said that it was back to Ford's best in terms of handling. As ever, how a car drives on a twisty B-road is their main measure of excellence.

Seen a few and look decent. Hopefully they have a sensible interior. Not fully on my radar as it's not a car I would buy, but I have always liked Ford since they made the Puma and the Yamaha engined Fiesta.

I'm a bit torn on this one. I have the Mk3 which can comfortably accommodate a family of four - he says never having sat in the back as SWMBO will not drive it. I'd like to test an ST automatic wagon as replacement for my RS next summer. The new ST is quick but regardless of press releases and views it can't live with a mildly breathed on RS.

They’re offering the new Focus Trend for £16k on the road here in NZ. 1.5l 3-cylinder turbo, autobox. Seems to have all the usual standard kit anybody needs. Haven’t seen many on the roads though.
Friend of mine has a 2016 model with all the bells and whistles and 18 inch wheels... recently had to replace 3 of his wheels because they had buckled on our poorly surfaced and potholed roads! Are they made of cheese you wonder..?!

The Audi A4 RS4 that was around in 2007 had wheels that would buckle too easily on very poor roads. Replaced under warranty of course. I think they were just too soft and there might have been a recall. But they were probably designed/made to buckle under these circumstances because the alternative was damage to the suspension.... sort of sacrifiousal wheels.
