Was chatting with a fellow surveyor this week; also MD of a firm a bit larger than mine. Has been driving an Audi A7 for four years. Its going back shortly and in looking for a replacement he spoke with a leasing company about a variety of 'executive cars' and was offered various models at a minimum of £700pcm. Then they offered him an S350d for £399pcm on a two year deal. Ten in the country at this price.
I just couldn't. It's a great car, but I couldn't turn up to an inspection of a medium sized workshop in it or a terraced house. Also, I parked up in our car park on Friday next to a BiTurbo version. Its so looooong. Dwarfs my E-class. Longer than the parking spaces in the car park. I'll get a ticket every day if I got one.
So i think I'll pass on this opportunity.....

£399? That's a scorching deal. I can only assume it's an annual mileage of about 500 miles.

I heard about this last week, guy I know is having one. Without his face cracking, he explained that his 911 is fun, but not always suitable for family use, so he's having an S class as well...
He's in the same line of business as me and it occurs to me that I must be doing something wrong.
Sheesh...

Friend's B-i-L works for a big Audi dealership in the norther half of England.
Apparently there's a large bonus for selling minimum numbers of each model, and as a result of needing a couple more A8 sales they were selling 2 brand new A8s for £29,999 a few years ago.
Perhaps Merc do something similar?

Don't like many Audis but I'd love an A8. I'd certainly have had one at that price!

Both my Mercs were bought at something approaching 75% of list. Must just be timing.
In China at the moment ( can't sleep ) lots of posh metal here. Porches, Mercs, Range Rovers etc very commonplace and yet, lots of people clearly living hand to mouth too.

Do you still need an invitation to get a business visa? Last visit was about 10yrs ago but it used to be a real pita.
Girls in black T-shirts in the hotel bar?

Separated from her husband about three years ago and has two boys, one at school other at college. IIRC she's some sort of training manager with one of the big banks. Comfortably off I think but not rolling in cash. She was telling us she'd previously had company cars but that she could lease the Beemers for less than BIK on previous Audi A3 though I think it's only possible through trade connection. Presumably they're sold on nearly new as ex-dealer fleet or some such description.

When I worked in Bracknell the BMW UK HQ was nearby. I was told that those employees eligible for a company car would have them changed every six months. Other employees could lease new cars at very good rates.
As you say, they were then sold on through dealers as approved-used. My first Porsche came from AFN Reading where it had been a company/demo car.

A friend of mine was in exactly that position. She got a new car, pretty much any vehicle she wanted spec'd how she wanted, but only kept it for 6 months. This was about 10 years ago, I've no reason to suppose that it's changed.

Citroën UK used to be a customer of mine. They changed their management cars every three months. My main contact there said that was too frequent and he was forever losing small personal items left in cars that he had returned.

In the eighties company vehicles were often replaced frequently due to deals. So you might have say a Vauxhall Cavalier for only 6 months. So by the time it was due to go back all the original problems had been fixed. And then you started with a problem car again.
