We heard today that the three water cannon that Boris Johnson, as Mayor of London, bought from Germany for £320,000, have been sold as scrap for just £11,000. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-46258584Quite apart from the loss to the public purse, what shocks me is that they ignored the usual, and much easier, way of offloading large vehicles of suspect provenance and no likely future value. So, Vić - were you out when they called?

Timing seems interesting to me. Theresa May under threat and Boris is seen to be the idiot again.
I am sure they could have got more than £11k scrap for these.

Two better ways of selling these.
1. Back to the vendors; 2. To a company specialising in military type adventures.
Selling for scrap is stupid.
Oh its Labour, now there's a surprise.

That's a bit much, Esp.
Bojo bought them for an inflated price without checking that they could be legally used on the streets of London (they couldn't).
Further money was spent on then before the Home Office (in the form of one T May) banned their use outright.
As part of Bojo's wonderful procurement, he agreed to very restrictive covenants re: their onward disposal (so restrictive that no "active" purchaser could be found - neither of your suggestions would have met the bill).
Hence, as a last resort, the white elephants have been sold for scrap.
...and you want to criticise Labour....

Personally I think water cannon are a great crowd control device. Less injury to horses and/or policemen and the great unwashed get a wash....

See also Garden Bridge, New Routemaster, Olympic Park (repurposing of), self-financing Boris Bikes... Hardly a poster-boy for Conservative fiscal probity, is he?

Indeed he is not as smart as some think. And WDB lists more examples of why he is not to be trusted with finances other than his own let alone a country.

"Hardly a poster-boy for Conservative fiscal probity, is he?"
He's hardly a model for any sort of probity.
His first wife was Allegra, his second Marina. Will he next marry a Princess?

‘Interesting’ in the sense of ‘useless’?
