As alluded to here after our trip in January, we're off back to New Zealand mid-week for a further 5-week holiday.
This time via Singapore rather than Hong Kong, which looks like it's going to be a rather hot and humid experience between two somewhat cooler bookends.
Having learnt our lesson from last time, we have a slightly longer stopover in Singapore on the way back than we had in Hong Kong (which was simply a transit stop), but we still have over 4 weeks touring NZ itself, using a motorhome again.
Though we managed all our "must see" locations last time, there are a few new places that we'd like to see, and the odd place (particularly Abel Tasman) that we will return to if weather and circumstances permit. We're hoping, however, that a return visit will allow us to slow down a bit and get a bit more off the beaten track. It will also be a very different season, so we're expecting rather contrasting scenery.
I'm (probably understandably) slightly less excited than last time but still really looking forward to it. We booked almost directly after our return, wondered whether we would regret it, and patently don't.

Incidentally, I'm off the HK and China again in December, business trip though, but will have a "free" weekend in HK. Need to sort out something to see I suppose.

Have a great trip. I'm not a very good tourist, I don't like to be all organised and going around seeing stuff. I prefer just to "hang out" as it were.
As an aside. is it "blatantly obvious" or "patently obvious" ? I wonder which, from time to time.

Neither, it's "bleeding" 😉

I don't like to be all organised and going around seeing stuff. I prefer just to "hang out" as it were. I'm not a great one for the "organised" either, though it's patently blatantly bleedin' obvious that on one's travels there are some iconic things one should make the effort to see. We're often happiest bimbling about in the motorcaravan, following our noses and stopping off wherever, more often than not off the beaten track. Travelling further abroad really dictates a bit of planning to make the best of it, but even then, on our recent visit to NZ, we had some equally enjoyable moments well off the main tourist track - a bit more this time will be welcome. As for time in HK, Humph, we enjoyed our trip out to the Big Bhudda (used the bus rather than the cable car, in order to get some local "colour"), and a wander round The Peak (again using the bus, but this time to avoid the queues for the tram). It was just as enjoyable, however, wandering around Kowloon and particularly the night markets, simply soaking up the atmosphere.

Bimbling is good. So is wandering. Visiting, not so much.

I wonder which, from time to time. ‘Blatantly’ refers to the intention, ‘patently’ to the effect, so that’s more correct. ‘Bleedin’’ is better than either, though. I like to wander too. Source of holiday tension in the family, because MrsB1 likes to do set-piece visits by the guidebook. I like to hang out, explore and get a bit lost. My greatest pleasure on this summer’s trip was not Lake Constance and the Zeppelins — fun as that was — but finding the big locks and the junction of the Rhône-Rhine and Great Alsace Canals. That just came out of curiosity while idly perusing a map, but was fabulously unlike the beardy, fleecy world of canals in England. New Zealand looks fab, though. Haven’t been. Would like to. Have fun.

Some friends of mine are currently motorhoming for the summer in New Zealand. If you come across a British couple called Keith and Gail, say hi from me. These two gits managed to retire in their early 40s and now live almost permanently in a motorhome, living off passive income, spending summers in the UK and winters in the Med. They've decided on a change this year hence the trip to New Zealand.
Bastards.

Recast that only slightly and they’ve been out of work for ten years and live in a caravan. 🤓

Sadly they own an extensive portfolio of residential properties in the UK, and can base themselves in one of those from time to time. I really, really envy them not a single jot. Oh no. No binlids neither, the canny buggers.

I don't think this is what Otto would class as "visiting":

— but finding the big locks and the junction of the Rhône-Rhine and Great Alsace Canals. We drove past the boat lift at Arzviller on the Marne-Rhin canal earlier this year on the way to Strasbourg. I knew of it, but as it was behind trees from the road it took some time to realise - I quite regretted not turning round for a look.
