Normally when my girls go to Muay Thai [sort of kickboxing, three times a week] I sit in the car park. I just don't manage watching them fight very well.
But #2 is ill at the moment, so for once I went in with #1. Not that she wanted me to, it's just I feel bad letting her walk in alone. [The Fathers will understand]
Anyway, so I watched the warm-up. This is the bit they do before they begin sparring. 140 sit-ups, 140 press-ups, 140 lunges. Plus other slightly more difficult to explain exercises.
And *then* the evening's serious business of sparring begins.
I don't think I've been able to do 140 sit-ups and 140 press-ups in my life!!!
Am I alone in feeling inadequate and old, or do I have company?

That's Humph showing off.
Seriously, thats fantastic exercise for your daughters. It will keep them flexible and strong for many years if they keep up that regime. I'm with you - wouldn't have a hope of doing what they do even 10% of it.

I'm starting to wish I'd done more exercise over the last 30 years, I've not bothered much since leaving school. Am very inflexible now and suffer from a lot of stiff necks/shoulder pain. Got it at the moment, it's misery.
2 sit ups would be pushing it.

Not showing off really, well, a bit maybe, but more trying my best to to hold back the ravages of my advancing years in truth. I work in an industry where most people are burned out by the time they are in their thirties, but somehow I'm still hanging on in there. I do 1000m in the pool most nights, 50 press ups and 50 sit ups every morning and the same again at night. Most weekends we're up a hill on our bikes, generally between 20-30 miles off road on a Sunday. Still putting in regular 70-80 hour working weeks too, but I have to say, some days I'm pretty knacked. 4.00 am starts are not rare.
I was 60 this year and I recognise that I'll have to slow down sooner rather than later, but while I can still do it, and enjoy it, I will. Don't hate me, I'll probably just keel over from it all one day anyway!

Drink? Post rubbish on here? Ablute (is that a word)?
Don't say all at once please.
No wonder your marriage is so successful, she never sees you.

Well, you know the saying about if you want something done, ask a busy person to do it. I'm at my (home) desk at the moment and fielding/making mails, calls etc while faffing about on here in between. Off to see a customer this pm too and on my way to Ireland on Sunday.
I've never been good at sitting still, even on holiday I know I drive others mad. Can't be doing nowt. Don't drink much at all ( alcohol that is ) unless I'm on hols. Get a wash at swimming pool shower and a rinse off in a morning. She's the same though, hardly sits down, does girly classes at the gym most nights and runs with the dog. Forgot to mention I walk the dog a lot too, but I take my phone...

Got it at the moment, it's misery. 2 sit ups would be pushing it. Never too late to start doing something Al, the work you could put in now would give you huge benefits later in life. I do get it, busy lives, young families, not enough hours in the day etc, been there. No need for radical change, just find a few minutes every day to do something that helps. Walk to the post box/corner shop rather than drive. Take the stairs not the lift sort of thing. But if you're main issue is a stiff neck and shoulders, I'm going to guess its because you ( probably through no fault of your own ) sit too much. Swimming regularly would help with that, non load bearing exercise is the way to go when you're not used to it. Honestly, you'd be amazed how quickly you'd start to feel better.

Sitting at a desk all day in the office can't help. At least in Sales you are often out and about. I walk around 5km a day in my job, 3-4 days a week, which must do me some good?!

Ooo, been there, done that, survived the raging dogs of Winkfield Row. Dying industry also. And, morally, I'm not sure I'd like to be part of the machine delivering the Daily Mail's bile to susceptible pensioners.
