My girls love the outdoors life; camping, cycling, hunting, fishing, shooting etc. etc. and they spend a lot of their time doing such stuff. And bearing in mind that we have beach, mountains, glaciers and desert, the opportunities abound.
One of their relatives has offered to bring them a present each back from the US where technology is massively cheaper than it is here.
I did think GPS units, but that was poo-poo'd because they have most of that functionality in their phones.
Solar chargers for their existing tech seemed like a good idea, especially with the amount of sun here, but all the reviews seem to indicate that they are heavy and not very good.
And then I ran out of ideas....
Anybody got anything?

Fitbits or some other kind of phone connected smart watch. Decent pair of headphones (beats or similar).
Dont just stick to tech tho, Branded clothing and trainers is much cheaper in the states too. (real ones, you can probably get fakes locally)

Smart watch, genius.
But that will only work for one. So I need a second idea.

I'm sure you have told us how old your girls are...teenagers? How about tablets or lightweight laptops?
Or less techy, binoculars? With night vision?

14 (No. 1) and 11 (No. 2).
Tablets and laptops they have. Also the one who would like binoculars already has them. Although night vision is a thought.
No. 1 will love the smart watch. Its No. 2 I need inspiration for now.

The watch is ordered for No. 1, research is being done into night-vision stuff for No. 2.

OK, No. 1 has her watch.
I don't know if its this particular watch, or smart watches in general, but what a piece of utterly pointless garbage.
Not recommended, not even sure what its value is supposed to be. Even she is just putting a brave face on it.

Sometimes technology provides a solution to a question no one asked.

That certainly seems to be the case here.
The input method, essentially on screen keyboard, is just a pain. The touch screen works pretty well, but everything is too small. trying to read anything is largely pointless because of the size of that screen and the amount of scrolling required.
About the only potential value I can see is in activity based displays. i.e. if One is using a pedometer, heart rate counter, lap counter, stop watch, etc. etc. etc. then having a display on your wrist ought to be more useful than one in your pocket.
But that's about it, as far as I can see.

What watch did you get? I have an Android smart watch and the handy bit for me is walking in unfamiliar cities plotting a route and following it. Instead of getting the phone out to follow it's on your wrist and it vibrates when a change in direction etc. is coming up.
I can also control the music on my phone, ask it to set timers etc. But I don't think you're meant to interact with it much via touch apart from launching apps.

Ok, I can see the direction thing. I don't see much value in controlling music or setting alarms.
I certainly wouldn't get one. As to which it is, its for an Android, but I don't know which model or manufacturer. I'll look when she gets home this evening.

So it's running the same OS as mine. It's handy once in a blue moon to set a reminder or alarm when driving. Saying 'OK Google' and it starts listening.... but then so does the phone (SGS6) since the last update.... it can be set to always listen now.

Oh dear, looks like I cocked up here as well. Not sure what you were expecting from a smart watch, and nor does it seem you have yet to fully explore the possibilities.
Funnily enough, 'er indoors now wants a fitbit Alta.
