I have a small but decent bass guitar amplifier I bought eight years ago for very little. This weekend, two things happened: 1. Boy 2 bought himself an instrument to play through my amp; 2. The amp worked for an hour on Saturday, then refused to restart on Sunday morning.
It looks like a simple failure of the internal power supply fuse. But it’s not a simple job to fix because the fuse is (a) not accessible, and (b) soldered to the circuit board.
But I reckon any old-fashioned TV repair shop would fix it in two thirds of a jiffy for fifteen quid, which I’m prepared to pay. But find an old-fashioned TV shop these days? I bet there’s one in a nook or cranny of Reading. Anybody know of one?

Along the Henley Road coming from Henley, past the Travellers Rest pub but before you get to Queen Anne's School, there is a small strip of shops immediately after Chiltern Road on your right. They did TVs, Radios, and VCRs, so I fancy your chances just as long as it is still there.
Millbrook Television Services 118 Henley Road Caversham 0118 948 2112
There also used to be one at the top of Donkin Hill immediately opposite the row of shops, but I can't remember it's name. It may have gone.

Sorry. Is it any consolation that it used to be good?

Now just round the corner at 11 Pembroke Place, apparently. Thanks chaps, I’ll give them a ring.

Next to my [now dead] Auntie Muriel! It's a residential street, so I'm guessing he's working from a shed. Probably makes him ideal for your purposes.

Barry Knight? I can’t go to him! He’ll keep singing that song about the Smurfs on the run from Dartmoor.

Nothing yet. Forgot to take it on my one recent trip to Reading. Otherwise, haven’t been at home with time in hand.

On allied subject my irreplaceable 10yo Sony ICF 7600GR worldband radio intermittently lost AM reception after a trip to New Forest in Spring of this year. At same time it became apparent that something with mass of AA battery or more was moving around inside of set.
Part of me thought Waahey - opportunity to convince t'management that I needed a Tecsun PL 880 or something by Sangean as replacement. Practical bit thought 'what's wrong'.
Took back of and found that (i) adhesive securing ferrite rod aerial to chassis had failed and (b) as aerial could move it's soldered link to main circuit board had broken.
Secured ferrite rod to chassis with blobs of epoxy and made, albeit cack handed, repair to soldered join with circuit board.
Hopefully I'll get another 10 years from it.
