Great to be with you and thanks for inviting me.
I think you all know me, but for the benefit of others who hopefully will join us.... I'm a chartered accountant, was training manager at a biggish firm of accountants, now semi-retired and living in a lovely rural part of north Dorset (Blackmore Vale area). I have quite a busy combination of a bit of paid work (writing and examining) and quite a lot of voluntary stuff (playing the organ, choir directing, Royal School of Church Music area chairman, and branch treasurer for the RNLI). I'm also moderator on the HJ forum - which is more enjoyable than perhaps it sounds.
After three much-loved Octavia vRSs, I have a Volvo V60 and SWMBO has a Mini Cooper Roadster. The V60 isn't as fun to drive as the Skodas were (I changed because the bolstered vRS seat was difficult for SWMBO with her arthritic knee to get in and out of) but it's growing on me. The Mini is less nippy than it ought to be - I think because it thrives on high revs and there isn't enough torque for low-down 'pull'.

Incidentally, I was going to suggest that you put up a picture of your organ on your profile but thought better of it !😰

Welcome.
And as for the RNLI, I am a massive fan. They rescued me from a rather tricky situation once and I remain forever grateful.
That and the work they do supporting so much of and so many different water activities ensures I keep coughing up, even from all the way over here.
And they've been generous enough to certify me at various things over the years.

Oi, Zero! Do you have to quote the entire post? Can't you just quote the bit you need?
Bit surprised that nobody's ever mentioned that to you before.

It's Salisbury Cathedral: big enough, although I accept that Scottish organs may be more potent....

Used to go to the Watchnight service at St Giles in Edinburgh to sing carols after being in the pub when we were young and lairy. They had a sign outside saying " All welcome" Not entirely convinced they meant us...😬

It's Salisbury Cathedral: big enough, although I accept that Scottish organs may be more potent.... A magnificent beast. I was educated at Southwell Minster Grammar and had the benefit of Kenneth Beard as my music teacher; a wonderful man, and a fine organist. My recollections of school were not universally happy ones but we went to assembly in the Minster most days and it left me with a lifelong love of sacred and secular organ music.

My school had its own chapel and organ but also had an arrangement with Greyfriars Kirk in Edinburgh for larger services. I have childhood memory of some of us replacing the real words to hymns and psalms and singing rude versions which amused us until we were caught doing it. This resulted in some pain for those of us who were identified as the ringleaders. We had relied on being drowned out by the sheer volume of other voices but our school chaplain obviously had a better ear than we thought. He cut half of his left foot off with an early petrol Flymo one summer as I recall. Gave him a limp and a somewhat discontented demeanour after that.
