I was on the M1 today. Up around J45 ( Wetherby-ish ) Anyway, there are roadworks there with a speed limit. Normally these are set at 50mph but in this instance it has been set at 55mph.
Unusual eh?

Not unusual in America but certainly over here. I think the only speed speed limit I've seen not divisible by 10 is, well, 5.

Is it possibly an attempt to allow trucks to travel at their normal rate and not sit up the a**e of law abiding drivers who do 50 in a 50 limit, yes I know what an indicated 50 usually is in reality but I gave up arguing that one with SWMBO a long time ago when she is doing the driving. And no, it does not excuse bullying lorry or coach drivers at all, there is no excuse for aggressive driving.

Is it possibly an attempt to allow trucks to travel at their normal rate and not sit up the arse of law abiding drivers who do 50 in a 50 limit...? More likely to make that worse, as lorries limited to 56 could pass cars doing 50 (or 46) but might not bother at 55 and hang dangerously on the bumper instead.
